On 13 May, I was caught short-faring going from Sawbridgeworth to Liverpool Street and the Greater Anglia officer interviewed me under caution. They then took my phone and looked at my trainline account, and noticed that I had done it on numerous occasions, which I admitted to. Came onto this forum and the experts went through other occasions people have been caught by GA and co-operation was the key, so thank you for your help. Anyway i received an email from Greater Anglia-ITAL who basically sent me a settlement figure (v lucky as I thought it would be more) to pay within 7 days, which I duly did. The email stated that their policy was to collect money owed before considering court action.
Morale of this story, is I will never ever do this again and now with contactless being added to the station, I have no excuse to pay the full fare. I would say now to anyone facing this, is to co-operate rather than deny everything and the outcome should avoid a court date and a criminal record. Will be popping onto the forum from time to time to offer guidance to people facing similar issues. What a excellent forum this is.
