Getting a CCST ticket instead of PRT ticket for Rover?

Thought this was the most relevant thread to ask.

I am going to use a Northeast Rover next week with my partner (most likely the 7 consecutive one), but really want a CCST.

I could buy in KX before setting off (two days before using said Rover), or in Leeds the day before or same day.

Would you recommend one station over the other to guarantee CCST, or would asking nicely simply do the trick?

Many thanks in advance!
Kings Cross ticket office will issue PRT with no way to override. I am not sure who manages Leeds ticket office, though.
One option that would almost certainly be CCST would be to buy from TPE (link to tickets-rover found under “other”) and have it posted.

That's a shame. Just read on Railrover.org that LNER TVMs at KX issue them. Surely that would guarantee a CCST then?
TVMs will only issue rovers for same day travel as far as I know.

Thank you 81A, think it's a bit late for me to get it through the post as will be leaving first thing Friday morning. I'll try my luck at Leeds in that case.

Seems odd, since they are literally sitting on top of the main reason CCST is still needed (other than the fact that in some circumstances it is much more customer-friendly).

Yes, it would.

And tickets set up to be issued only on CCST will be.

Are Northern still using Fujitsu in their ticket offices? I know the transition is imminent, but if they haven’t switched yet will still be CCST. Alternatively, I think most Northern TVMs are CCST still (and I think they issue rovers, day of travel only) but some are/were PRT capable. So taking a bit of a risk as no way to check until the ticket prints.

That gives me some options, thanks all. Would have ordered online but the special delivery fee on top I'd rather avoid just for the sake of having CCST (plus the TPE website is playing up when trying to order for two with a 2T railcard...)

I'll ask nicely at KX and if it doesn't work I'll try again at Leeds, using Northern TVM as a last resort on first day of travel.

MTiS (aka @station / TOMTIS) is Worldline's Ticket Office system.

If a ticket is configured to allow it to be issued as a Paper Roll Ticket, MTiS will do so if PRT is set as the default and the member of staff can't override that.
I’m curious what would happen if the staff member were to open the PRT printer, as you would to change a paper roll, to have it in a fault condition, then try to print - might it fail over to the CCST printer?

It’ll prompt the printer to be fixed in my experience.

EMR at St Pancras possibly would.
I think someone said EMR have started switching to Worldline Mtis now… And are issuing PRT at all the upgraded windows… In London, I think Southeastern and c2c (and Elizabeth Line and Overground) haven’t switched yet. And those using TTK will often issue CCST on request (GWR and maybe Avanti). Greater Anglia, SWR, LNER, GTR (Thameslink, Southern, Great Northern, Gatwick Express) and EMR very soon if not yet use PRT enabled Worldline which gives no choice and issues PRT for all enabled journeys.

Avanti use… is it called “Merlin”? Some TTK variant that seems to be quite locked down. Might be wrong, this was as described by someone who works for them.

Avanti use Avocet (which is TTK) and really isn't that locked down

In which case it is stupid that a ticket which is more customer friendly on CCST cannot be if requested. Before people jump in - any ticket which is potentially going to have to be shown multiple times over a period of days is better in a small size that doesn’t have to be folded. If it’s multi modal (I know this one isn’t) even more so.

Leeds are still currently issuing CCST as standard. The rot hasn't reached here just yet !

On Worldline (I think that's the one GA use), you can force CCST to print by also issuing a platform ticket simultaneously. It of course costs 10p more.

Ely still has their old system and print CCST.

Image shows a Platform Ticket issued on Paper Roll Ticket stock, with identifying marks redacted.

I beg to differ. Here's one I obtained at Marylebone, who are using Worldline kit.
That's very odd. They certainly can't print on CCST at my station. Rangers and Rovers can't either, so maybe it's to do with the install?

ScotRail has now started issuing Paper Roll Tickets at some stations now. Argyll Street and one window in Glasgow Central and Queen Street. It’s a shame.

Frankly, using a Rover ticket printed on PRT really isn't a huge issue. A couple of years ago I travelled extensively with an ALR printed on PRT.

An advantage is that if you fold it properly there's no need to remove it from the ticket wallet to scan it at the barriers or for ticket inspections
It also assists Delay Repay claims because if the ticket's been scanned it clear what train you travelled on.
