Which would be the case (sadly) for further strike action.
The other option would be to roll out these things which don't need any staff at all (apart from three people in a control room to oversee the operations)...

... but it would mean ripping up the entire South Fylde Line and installing a concrete trackway with the main guide rail in the centre and closing any level crossings en route due to the thing being driverless.
If Northern cannot resolve the East West split, then the only other option would be to revise the entire North West's timetables to run effectively a skeleton service linking only the cities and larger towns where Northern are the only operator, with a lot of the smaller stations getting no service at all.
