Anyone wanting to get to Holyhead has no hope. All trains cancelled and starting from Nuneaton or Crewe. Avanti haven’t listed any ticket acceptance in their website or social media.

Your ticket can be used at no extra cost on the following services:

• CrossCountry between Manchester Piccadilly and Coventry via Birmingham New Street

• London Northwestern Railway between Liverpool Lime Street and London Euston
• West Midlands Railway between Birmingham New Street and Trent Valley stations

If your train is cancelled, your ticket is valid on one of the two Avanti West Coast services immediately before your booked train, or one of the two immediately after.

Rail replacement is currently in place between Stafford and Rugby until approximately 21:00

Alternative travel options:

Passengers travelling North towards Crewe from Rugby are advised to travel via Birmingham New Street on either London Northwestern or Avanti West Coast services.

Northbound passengers for stations between Rugby and Stafford, are advised to use rail replacement buses from Rugby.

Passengers travelling south towards Rugby and the capital, are advised to travel via Birmingham New Street on either London Northwestern Railway or Avanti West Coast services.

Southbound passengers for stations between Stafford and Rugby are advised to use rail replacement buses from Stafford.

Also, big shout out to who ever controls the customer information system at unstaffed stations such as Atherstone, the 1600 to Crewe was showing on time until 1600, then just delayed until about 1610 when it then vanished and the screen and just showed the 1700 to c Crewe on time...

National Rail says they are currently operating between Stafford and Rugby, I'm meant to be using the Trent Valley to get to work in the morning but rather than guessing what time the RRBs are meant to be I think I'll chance it and use the Arriva service bus though that means getting up 30 minutes earlier.

It would just be for the LNWR Trent valley stations, Avanti will just divert.

Although Tamworth and Lichfield have hourly Avanti services in each direction, and then there's Nuneaton as well, so whether they'll just use the LNWR buses I'm not sure.

Obviously there are (for most of the day) obvious alternative routes via Brum for TAM and LTV.

Probably the safest option, Arriva are probably more reliable than a replacement bus.

At least you can sometimes track Arriva buses to see that 'yes it's running, but 20odd minutes late'

I am going to London on a Sunday in a months time from Manchester, I haven't booked my train yet. I am a better travelling up on a Saturday instead assuming this route probably won't be open by then?

It looks like a huge job, even if you can complete the job in say a month it will surely take a long time to get the crew and materials together?

Manchester to London trains seem to be running with major delays, but I know on a Sunday it is usually diversions at the best of times.

I see that 9S97 the 17.37 Euston to Glasgow has just left Birmingham New St 200 mins late!. I wonder if it will reach Glasgow.

I imagine it will as there will be Glasgow based crews waiting for it at Preston and the train will need to get to Polmadie.

Service to start from Preston but no ticket acceptance on Avanti. For London they are advising using LNER and Lumo from Edinburgh to Kings cross. They mention ticket acceptance on TPE to Preston but I might chance it on Avanti.

Took 0745 TPE to Preston and had an hour until the Lumo which started at Preston to MK.

The route was in the process of being re-opened late Thursday evening, as per the infrastructure thread. It’s a three track railway, the track nearest the damage was the up slow. AIUI up fast and down fast were reopened by Friday. RTT suggests a two track operation on the fast lines is running today but with some delays in the area, so I’d be assuming there are some speed restrictions.

I suspect most of those delays is due to anything using the up slow being forced to use the up fast, does the LNR service from Crewe usually use the slow line?

Certainly when I passed that area on a service from Glasgow it didn't slow down

Yes, I’d also expect managing the single up line would have an effect, but I’d only looked at RTT in detail at how the down direction was running, and it was also being affected anyway.
