"The end of an era is approaching.

Once the mainstay of our double deck fleet, the OmniDekka bows out this weekend back on the route where it all began back in 2003.

There's a special last operational running day on our Navy 48 this Saturday, 30th May 2026 with the last OmniDekka journey in service being the bus from City at 19:15 to Clifton.

The 48 to Clifton through The Meadows was the first route to receive the OmniDekka back in 2003, so it's only fitting that's the last route they will run on.

A significant upgrade in their day, we purchased 174 OmniDekkas right up until production ceased 2011. Between them, the OmniDekka fleet has travelled in the region of 75 million miles - the equivalent of going around the earth over 3,000 times!"

One facebook comment reads "So were's [sp] the next new double decks coming from to replace the omnidekkas...China , Arthur Danson and David Cherry must be turning in thier graves" to which NCT replied

"They started coming from Falkirk about 15 years ago! Sadly the modern day British buses - as we're currently experiencing with 6 we've recently purchased - don't meet or match the build quality and reliability we need. They'd no doubt be disappointed that's where UK manufacturing has ended up."

So NCT clearly aren't too happy with the Streetdeck Ultroliners, which I assume is one of the reasons the omnidekkas have lasted as long as they have. There can't have been many days where all 6 Streetdecks are out at the same time - I wonder what the issues are :?

NCT have announced on facebook that the omnidekkas will be withdrawn after this coming Saturday, they will spend a final day in service on the 48 this Saturday before being withdrawn

Sad to see them go, as they dominated the entire double decker fleet at some point or other, my favourite being the children in need yellow 68/69 bus. This will be the fate of the biogas double decker in the future too.

Just had a thought, obviously the green 12 will use the spares off the 3, 70,71 but will then join on branding with the 5-9 or be it's own.

A good point but IMO they should just update the branded ones to include the new routes and keep some unbranded to allow for better flexibility.

Not forgetting that the 11 drops to 2 buses so there will be one there that is currently branded 11 that will presumably become a 12.

In addition, Nottingham has experienced a number of major roadwork schemes in recent years, which have seen customer numbers decline on affected routes. Passengers found alternative ways to travel whilst services were disrupted and despite the works now being finished, they haven’t returned to the bus. As an example, one group of services is carrying 25% fewer people than before the works on their routes.

This is a common issue across the country which councils do not seem to appreciate, but in this case in particular this is the city council doing roadworks which have impacted their own bus company.

The majority of roadworks that majorly affect in the last year, have been caused by either cadent or national highways not the city council, yes there was maid Marion way but that finished a year ago now.

The crowd of enthusiasts it drew was quite big. The final outbound journey was shadowed by Tiger European's ex-NCT Omnidekka YN05 WFW, which many of us then rode on a private shuttle back to the city centre to await 907's arrival.

Given that the Streetdeck Electroliner is a very popular model, I reckon NCT want to see for themselves if it is any good.

I rode on a couple of the Plymouth Citybus ones - first experience of Wrightbus electrics - towards the end of 2025 and found the ride to be perfectly ok.

I think the point from NCT regarding the wrights related to their diesel ultroliners regarding reliability and build quality, so it does beg the question why they have ordered electroliners if they aren’t happy with their diesel equivalents.

When you see the quality that the Chinese are managing to churn out for the price , nothing less will do and that’s probably the crux of NCTs issue.

I don't know the overall PVR change but the 3 being withdrawn and reductions to the 40 and 70/71 should cover the extensions to the 9 and 45

There's also an extra vehicle needed for the 11 now the 12 is split off, but some single deck EVs on order.
