Birmingham Airport Terminal Access

I'm aware that the escalators at Birmingham Airport got removed a few years back and have been replaced with several large lifts.

However I'd be interested to find out, is staircase access now available as an alternative to using the lifts? Looking online I've only found mixed things about this with some passengers suggesting yes and others suggesting no. Are there stairs which passengers can freely use or do passengers have to request access from a member of staff?

Ive not seen anything obvious on a couple of recent trips over the past month. You'd think there would be some way of not using the lift (in event of fire etc)

There is a set of stairs on the side closest to the Air-Rail Link beside the lifts but it’s not very well signed although I was able to use them no problem. Large airport lifts drive me crazy with people keep streaming in preventing the lift from going.

Or keep pressing the button outside when the lift is already full meaning the door begins to close and then opens again. Then repeat.

I can remember walking up some stairs next to the jet2 checking area, that was last year mind. A few months back we checked in with Tui and used the lifts.

There are existing stairs to the right of the new lifts, but set back. I don't know if they are signed or available to the public.
The plans are on Solihull Councils planning portal.

The plans show a second pair of lifts where the air-rail link is; which suggests the link may be removed at some point.
The terminal for the link to the HS2 interchange station will be near the South (Jet2) terminal (plans)

There were stairs/escalator from the Jet2 check in area to Security, but I don't know if there are available since the new lifts opened.
