Last week I bought a return ticket on the 28th for travel to London Euston on the 30th. There was maintenance taking place at Coventry and Birmingham meaning I couldn’t board my local station. There was a rail replacement bus in place which would take me to a neighbouring town where I could board my train. This maintenance would add over an hour to my journey so I opted not to take it. I wasn’t aware of the maintenance or the delay.

I have tripes submitting a refund ticket through their app but it was rejected. Should I be eligible for a refund?

Who is "their" app, and did you state the reason for refund?

What was the exact journey being made? From which station to which station, and at what time?

Were the engineering works unplanned, or were they advertised in advance (recognising that you may not have known about them personally)? This will make a big difference as to your entitlement to a refund.

I was travelling in the area quite a bit during the weekend and I bought tickets via trip.com too.

The engineering works were planned, there were notices at about every station I visited. When I purchased tickets, trip.com was giving travel times according to the replacement buses schedules and was advising of "bus replacement" in lists of possible options. This is their usual practice. In fact, that put me off from travelling further away, as this would have been prohibitively time consuming.

It's unlikely there's an entitlement to a refund in the scenario given, if the ticket was purchased after 1 April 2026 and the works were known about at the time of purchase.
