Missing Avanti First Class Tickets

Hi,

I'm looking to travel from Glasgow to London on Sunday 14th June. However, having not used the route in a while I've found something a bit odd...

I can't purchase a first class ticket. I don't mean "I can't purchase an Advance first class ticket"... I can't actually purchase any first class ticket for most Avanti trains.

Example: 09:34, 10:34, 11:35 and 12:35 which are direct GLC to EUS you cannot buy even an Anytime Single when selecting those services. Oddly, the 09:46 with a change at Crewe does allow this.

Does anyone know why this is the case? Seperately, if anyone also knows why Avanti's Sunday timetable is different every week at the moment that would be interesting too.

Thank you!

It looks like they haven't loaded any fares. Have you asked Avanti about this?

Maybe consider purchasing the Standard Class single (£130.80) and a Standard Premium Upgrade onboard (£44)= £174.80 in total, versus £292.50 for a First Class Anytime Single.

Particularly as Avanti only use coach K for First Class at Weekends (which I'm guessing is why most/all services are fully booked in First Class).

Also Avanti Weekend First Class Food in my opinion isn't very good in my opinion- certainly not worth the £117.70 extra for First Class, ignoring First Class lounge access.

Is this not just simply down to planned engineering works taking place in different places at different times?

Interesting, what does "SERVICE_FULL" mean - is that literally every seat is booked?

It does look like that. Every single seat in coach K apart from the secret 8 seats that Avanti keep out of the reservation system to use as the crew mess area are booked ("isBooked": true).

H and J are stdprem.

SERVICE_FULL means there is no availability in that class of accommodation (1st class in this case), rather than the whole train. They probably haven't opened availability in RARS (though it could also be genuinely full).

Hmm. I wouldn't expect the RARS coaches call to show the individual seats as booked if they genuinely hadn't opened it for bookings at all, yet.

That's in line with the behaviour I've seen when there have been other e.g. sales restrictions at play on things like ScotRail services.

If that's not the case here and the seats aren't actually booked, that sounds broken to me (not that I'd be surprised!).

I can believe that they'd all be booked, though - there aren't actually that many first class seats on the weekend and you're wanting to travel the entire distance.

Could there possibly be a staffing issue and they'll effectively declassify?

Scotland playing Haiti at 2am that day

OP - have you tried looking at split tickets on the forum site? This could mitigate the 'entire distance' point, which I hadn't thought of tbh but could potentially be the issue.
