The only option left I think is to come beyond St James roundabout and then a long sharp turn back.
If the old Arkelston to Renfrew line hadnt been upgraded cycle path wise then potentially this could have been used then diverted to airport then on to Linwood and Bridge of Weir and Kilnacolm, but that is gone now

A fixed heavy rail link wouldn't be ideal for those coming from Ayrshire direction. I like the idea of a people mover, but the interchange needs to be as smooth and accessible as possible.

At least they’re on the right ‘track’. Anyone from north of the Clyde (From Helensburgh, Dunbartonshire, Kirkintilloch or Falkirk) has to make their way to Central which works for all lines terminating there. Everyone else is stuffed.

That was talked about in an interesting Facebook discussion but would not have served Gilmour Street, and as you say is highly unlikely now anyway.

From the northwest they can change at Patrick to arrive into Central rather than Queen Street.

Falkirk residents would probably go to Edinburgh as a preference, not least because it tends to be cheaper anyway. Kirkintilloch residents are the only ones that benefit less than others.

Not within their gift- they go where the flight departs from. I haven’t found Edinburgh flights particularly cheaper, but the hassle to get there from North Glasgow is probably equal since unlike Prestwick and Inverness Fly-train links don’t really exist.

A modern cableway could do the journey in around 4 minutes, shifting upto 8000 people an hour each direction with a departing cabin every few seconds - so no issue in hanging around for connections that go to airport!

Seriously, not a bad idea. The M8 might be a bit of a challenge, as it rises to a great height which was apparently to respect the navigation rights on the White Cart which were extinguished at some later date. Going above it might not be practicable that close to an airport.

Has a tram-train been considered using the disused tracks to Braehead shopping centre? It could run on street through Renfrew and then via a new right of way over the White Cart water to the airport. This would have the added benefit of giving Renfrew and the shopping centre better links to Glasgow.

Gondola lifts are available on the market with capacities in the thousands of people per hour per direction and speeds up to 8.5m/s.

Given the very short length of this link I doubt speed would be a problem.

It would have the same problem as GARL in that it would use capacity at Central. I’d prefer a surface tram via Broomielaw, Pacific Quay, QEUH, Braehead, Renfrew and AMIDS.
