Looks like there is going to be some disruption to this evening's diagrams... 197025 has been sat at Craven Arms on 1Z20 since 15:47.
Left 82 minutes late in the end. Hopefully shouldn't make 1W61/1V62 terminate/start at Wilmslow later, but time will tell for that one. :s

Yes, thats exactly whats happening. HD05 will stay in Holyhead for Monday, nothing shown as wrong with it and HD07 will pick up W65.
Doesn't look like it'll happen, given 197007 was allocated 1W65 at 16:59. Presumably that'll mean 1V62 (67025+HD01) will swap for a 197 at Crewe to avoid 3 sets in Canton tonight.

Given both diagrams off Crewe tomorrow (30/05/2026) are 197s... and 3 sets are at Canton tonight, that's given me a thought.

I'm thinking one of the 3 sets at Canton tonight (67012+HD03, 67020+HD07 & 67025+HD01) will work 1W11 (which is booked a 197 on Saturdays) to Manchester, which'll then replace 197044 on 1V37. 197044 would then join the 197 that does 1W12 upon that arriving into Manchester, forming 1V38... which is booked for 2x 197s between Manchester and Swansea.

That'll at least mean that there will be 3 sets out, as it looks like the Crewe starter/finisher will be 197019 all day. Makes sense if it is, as that way things will be balanced at the end of tomorrow.

Not saying that any of this will happen, though I will be quite surprised if what I suggested above actually happens...

I think the plan is 67020 and HD07 to come out to take over from 197019 and start with 1W57, then 1V46 and 1W65.

That'll still mean there will be a set imbalance after tomorrow... hence why I suggested the latter. Unless they decide to throw a 197 on 1W55/1V42/1W63, there would only be 1 set available at Canton for Monday.

Though I suppose they could do the following. 1 set on 1W13 etc. as booked, 1 set that replaces 197019 after 1V33, and the other set replaces 197044 after that does 1V37. Would mean 1W55/1V42/1W63 would be a 197... but at least that would get things back to where they should be without making things overcomplicated I suppose. I guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

HD07 came off Canton this morning rather than last night, meaning the unusual position of 3 sets at Canton. Its now planned to pick up its original diagram starting 1W57.

Sets cant be swapped around today as everything bar HD07 (and HD05 at Holyhead) have some work on them planned tonight or tomorrow.

Means there's only going to be 1 set at Canton tonight then, which'll mean one of the two Canton starts on Monday will be 197 vice... unless a 197 gets thrown on 1W63.

Yes, should be 3 or possibly even 4 available out of Crewe Monday morning so all being well one can swap in on 1W11 or 1V37.

For journeys to Swansea, are the sets now cleared for the diversionary route via Barry & Vale of Glamorgan Line between Cardiff & Bridgend, or are 197’s being substituted ?

No, anything via the Vale of Glamorgan is a unit. Generally they are split at Cardiff when there are diversions.

I am guessing it is not worth clearing them for VOG for 1 turn a day (for most of the week anyway).

It may happen eventually but yes in the grand scheme of things for such a small amount of working. Its a very small team dealing with clearance and the Cambrian/Bristol 197s, Mainline 231s and the 398s have been more a priority.

First was almost full on 1V18 yesterday, shout out to the fine couple who tried to claim someone ”official” said they could sit there for free (when they were probably advised to walk through to the next standard coach), then reluctantly bought upgrades and stole the glassware!
