hi, ive passed all national standards with avanti but failed at VSE, I was told by the opc if was to re apply after a year I would only sit the VSE (as its an enhanced test) and the pre screening tests like the m7 sjt can anyone confirm if this is the correct info or if I misinterpreted it, and if so what would one recommend, try and reapply or start applying to other TOC's that dont utilise VSE as I dont have a 1 year wait in terms of those TOC's ?

Personally I would do both,I’d apply for any positions your able to and also reapply with avanti maybe email them around the 6-8month mark highlighting you can want to resit and keep you in their mind.

You still would have to do the cbi for Avanti, or the mmi for all other toc’s

I’ve still got nothing back from the paper test which has been done on 27th April for Euston 2026 application. Sent an email to Avanti and still got no reply.

Does that mean I’ve been rejected? Or do I still need to wait?

I think it would be the OPC you need to contact - as they are separate from Avanti. (The tests are external). Aside from that hopefully someone who did the test on the same day as you might provide some insight. I did my paper based test on the 1st of May. I was then informed I passed on the 7th and the date of my stage 2 (22nd). Again, I think the OPC would be the best people to contact.

I hope all turns out well.

Yes, I was nervous too, but honestly don’t panic if you make a mistake — you’re allowed a few. Your reaction timing matters a lot across all the tests today.

For the WAFV, sit slightly back from the screen. You don’t want to be too close because it’s around 30 minutes of staring at grey squares turning black. Stay relaxed, remember to blink, and don’t click when it’s still grey.





For the ATAVT, the best advice I can give is to scan from right to left. Only answer with what you actually saw — if you didn’t clearly see it, don’t guess.





For the Two-Hand Coordination Test, they’re looking at both speed and accuracy. In the first few runs you might make mistakes, but after that focus on becoming faster while keeping errors low.





For the VSE, sit closer to the screen. The first two sections are usually straightforward. The third gets trickier, so you need to spot the error quickly without spending too long searching.





Most important thing overall: stay calm and reset mentally after each test. One small mistake won’t fail you.

Left joystick is up and down

You have to follow the diagram on the screen and complete as quickly and accurately as possible.

You will be asked to repeat it numerous times

the joystick axes were inverted? press up and ball goes down, press down and ball goes up? or just normal settings? Also how complicated was the path? For what company did you do the assesments?

Sorry for the confusion, the joystick are not inverted, remember you are allowed to make mistake but if u fix it quickly you will pass, also do try to get best time on each run with few mistakes,

The key difference in the test that most people have never experienced is you have to keep pressure on the sticks as the ball will return to the default centre position on the screen if you let go of them.

If you have ever played games on a controller it comes naturally apart from that aspect mentioned.

I did my assessment today and was straight forward. Finished all 3 in about an hour and a BIG PASS!!!!

Now I'm waiting for the SJE and MMI

Had my stage 2 with OPC last month and it was a CBI at the end of the assessments.

It’s highly unlikely that they changed it over to MMI, that poster is probably excited that they’ve passed and not put much thought into what they’ve typed out.

I said SJE and MMI because that's what the practice papers they send me show not because I didn't put too much tough like you said....

If you’re applying for another company why are you posting on the Avanti thread?

Most people here (if not all) are interested in things related to Avanti and the experiences had in relation to Avanti’s process. Congrats on passing stage 1 though bud

Initially I asked a question about 2hand coordination test. Saw someone's comment and send him a reply and from there got going

I think it a different TOC, cuz Avanti still doing CBI due to high volume of applications
