Pregnant in training?

Has anyone gotten to their route learning for train manager prior to being with a minder and found out they were pregnant? Or know anyone that has whilst in training? And what happens when they’re / I’m back from maternity. Will I start the entire course again? Or start from route learning and minder again?

Thank you

You could well have to start from scratch due to the length of time away from the job. You’d have to ask your HR for their definitive answer.

First of all, congratulations!

Sorry I can't be much help but could be worth reaching out to your union (providing you're in one) and seeing if they have any information/support they can provide.

Congratulations! From a health and safety point of view I think you really need to notify your manager that you are pregnant. They will do a risk assessment. At some TOCs, they will take you off safety critical duties straightaway and maybe move you to a different role temporarily. Notify your manager by email so you have a trail, also asking for a copy of their maternity policy. If you prefer you can tell them face-to-face before pinging off the email confirming your conversation. As has been said though, if you are in a union and feel comfortable telling your local rep you could ask their advice. Just make sure you tell them it’s a confidential matter at this stage.

My partner discovered she was pregnant during her initial guards training (about week 5/6 from memory) at WMR. She worked until she was 26 weeks (including Route learning & completing the course as well as working within the roster) & was then removed from safety critical duties due to a slight complication. The company were really supportive at the time. They found her something else to do in the mean time (delay attribution) & then she went off on maternity. When she went back, she had a training needs assessment & just refreshed what was needed before going out and refreshing routes etc with a minder then joined the link.

We have family members who work for XC (as TM's) and I've asked them the process, they said it's very similar.

Best thing to do is speak to management &/or union if you feel comfortable as advised above and see what is said.

Most of all though, congratulations! :)
