Idk what more I can give as you can see I’ve attached the ticket bro
Well, you could post the actual Penalty Fare Notice (with personal details redacted), and the perhaps the details of the appeals that you submitted. The notice may reveal a technical reason that shows it has been incorrectly issued.

We need to see the actual ticket which we haven't seen. We also need to see the actual penalty fare notice you were given on the day.

You say you spoke to a member of staff at Liverpool Lime Street. Who were they? Who did they work for? What part of the station?

When you were issued with the penalty fare notice where on the journey were you spotted?

The booking confirmation in post #3 shows that it was an Advance single from Hoylake to Euston, and therefore would have been routed AWC & Connections.

Didn't check it as in didn't even look at it? That's different from what you've said previously.
Where did I say that?

I was thinking of this but I read it wrong - so that member of staff gave you permission to travel without even seeing your ticket? Odd, but I guess this an Authorised Person...what exactly did they say?

Before boarding, I explained the full situation to the member of staff at the barrier and she manually let me through despite me not having a separate ticket for that section. I then got issued a penalty fare onboard, which completely surprised me because I had specifically checked with staff first and wouldn’t have travelled otherwise.

Yes here how the conversation went

“Hi my train to London has been cancelled, the guy upstairs said I can travel to Chester. Can you put me through the barrier please”

“Merseyrail: yes of course *manually opens metal gate to let me through*

Thanks. So it'd be the member of staff upstairs who potentially gave permission. The question is if they were Avanti staff of whether they were an Authorised Person with regard to permitting travel on Merseyrail...

Though as the ticket was &CONNECTIONS it was arguably valid anyway...

This incident seems rather similar to (but not quite the same as) this one involving CrossCountry which was resolved in the customer's favour...

The ticket you are posting is the ticket for the journey FROM London, not the one for the journey you were making. And please post the Penalty Fare Notice.
Oh, I gave the penalty guy all 3 of my tickets. This is the photo he took. I stupidly don’t have the tickets anymore or penalty charge paper ticket anymore.

If I was at Liverpool Lime Street and a staff member said "Travel via Chester", I would automatically assume Merseyrail.

So you have binned the tickets and the Penalty Fare Notice

That will certainly make thinks very difficult to appeal further ?

Where are they ?

I hope the OP still has the booking confirmation in which it clearly states AWC & Connections as the route form the Advance ticket.

Also if they claimed delay repay, it may still be possible to view the ticket submitted on their online delay repay account.

Also how much is the OP being asked to pay?

As would I. Unless there was a TfW train in the station I'd just go straight downstairs.
