Disruption WCML Acton Bridge Area 28/05/2026

Due to a lightning strike overnight there’s a loss of signalling around Acton Bridge 30 min delays advised by the train manager.Trains are having to be talked through 3 signal sections. I’m on 1R08 Preston to Euston and was directly affected we suffered a 30+ minute delay through the affected area

I'm at Leeds and disruption to Knottingley route services is being announced due to the same reason.

The 10:09 to Nottingham is now cancelled as well.

There have also been Signalling related faults reported at Castleford (I think this has been fixed) and Blea Moor. (still ongoing.)

Chester station had lots of systems out of action this morning, leading to Merseyrail turning back at Bache with a bus link. One colleague arrived at work at Capenhurst at 10:00 instead of 08:30, and said there was a whiteboard out at Chester with a long list of what wasn't working. I wonder who does the lightning protection system design and maintenance for TfW (presumably, as it is their station)?

This is where I miss the TfW Journey Check page. I'm booked out of Chester on the South Wales service tomorrow afternoon, don't want to get there then find there's still problems. Just have to hope RTT and NRE know what's going on.

Merseyrail was back running to Chester by this afternoon, so hopefully things have been put back together for you.

My 13:33 Liverpool to Crewe actually did start in Liverpool despite Journey Check saying it would only start at Crewe. Whichever way, I'd have been okay as I boarded in Crewe.
