I'm not arguing in their favour! The points I'm making are (1) that I suspect what we know now is the tip of the iceberg and (2) they went about it in a bit of an amateur way

As a Bradford City fan, I hope Stockport smack Bolton into the middle of next week. There's just something about Bolton fans that properly wind me up.

I still don't think the whole Southampton story has come out - it seems very convenient that there was a "reason" for each of the three episodes they got charged for (new manager at Oxford, Ipswich training in Eastleigh, player fitness with the Boro)

Southampton seem to have pre-emptively admitted to the Oxford and Ipswich offences. I think that was tactical- they didn't win either of those matches. Their mitigation seems to be trying to portray themselves as bumbling idiots.

"We cheated but it didn't make any difference, please don't punish us!"

The whole attitude from the club seems to be that they thought that the worst that would happen would be a fine. They looked at the fine for Leeds but seem to have forgotten that the offence didn't exist when Leeds did it. The current rules were brought in precisely because Leeds did it. Oops.

I don't understand the bleating from the club. Canada were docked six points and their senior management were banned from football for 12 months when they did it in the Olympics, and plenty of people though they were lucky not to be booted out of the competition entirely. They should have expected a proper sanction.

Indeed. If I handle the ball on the goal line and am sent off, I can't have the punishment retrospectively reduced because the opposition scored the penalty anyway and we lost 3-0.

I'm sure it was tactical, but not for that reason. I think it was more a case of saying "we've done it before so it couldn't be that serious and, by the way, you can't touch us for those". Wrong on both counts!

I suspect the public statement they released on Tuesday night was similar to what they had put to the tribunal. As a Luton fan I was deeply offended by this statement, over a punishment that could have killed my club and was extremely consequential:

Luton Town's 30-point deduction in 2008/09 — to date the most severe sporting sanction in the English game — was levied against a club already in League Two, with no comparable revenue at stake.

It's just one of the many signs of Southampton thinking that their blatant cheating really wasn't a serious matter.

I believe 2 extra from Hull (using "First group resources"). 1 direct with Hull trains non-stop to London, the second working with Hull trains and LUMO, firstly HT to Doncaster and then changing to a LUMO train at Donny (which I think they have done before).

Edited to add, looks like LNER are running a 9 car as against the standard 5 (and is sold out as well)

LNER are running an extra York > Kings Cross return out around 0915 and return after the match

York park and ride will also stay open until midnight to help people travel

Southampton cheated and were rightly kicked out. Middlesbrough were right to follow it up.

Middlesbrough are a decent team and Steve Gibson is a bloke who does things properly. No love lost between Middlesbrough and Chelsea.

I don't usually watch the Swiss Cup Final. But I am today, since I have to drive a special fan train “home.” That way, I can follow along live to see how much longer it will take and what the fans' mood will be like. Should have been more comfortable and Chelsea are a horrid, niggly bunch of divers and cheats, but what a season.

Up via the playoffs thanks to 120+2 and 90+5 goals in the semi final and final, 14 new players in the summer and everyone predicting relegation.

Of the 14 signings only one (Arthur Masuaku, and he was an injury- driven panic buy) was a dud, and two (Xhaka and Mukiele) are the best in the league.

My partner and her dad, brother, nephew and mates have had season tickets for all their lives and they just keep saying “stuff like the last two years doesn’t happen to us”. Mind you, they’d have settled for 17th place and doing the double over the mags

Similar situation to you. I have countlessly uncles and cousins who are sunlun season tickets holders and they are over the moon to say the least. European football does not happen to Sunderland!
