Do we think there will be one reliveried unit per TOC? Would make sense having a flagship unit in every part of the UK. Apologies if this has already been discussed.

Will devolved (or to be devolved) operations like Merseyrail, WMR and the Bee Network maintain their local liveries?
What'll happen if e.g. Bristol or Leeds suddenly decides it wants local branding for suburban commuter lines but only in a few years' time, after the trains have been reliveried?
I'm guessing not even the higher-ups at shadow GBR know yet, but it's food for thought.

What about Great Northern's 717s - if these transfer to TfL, presumably they won't be reliveried?

I'm almost certain that the TfGM aka Bee Network are aware about livery issues. I believe they originally wanted a 195 in Bee Network colours but when they were informed that 195s are in Nottingham, Liverpool and Barrow daily they went for a 323 instead, even that goes to Blackpool! I am thinking it will be a GBR livery but with the logos of the various networks established so far.

PTE/devolved liveries make sense where a network and its rolling stock are self-contained, e.g. Merseyrail, less so where the "network" is just a ticketing system island in the middle of a bigger network.

That doesn't mean it won't happen of course, it did a fair bit under BR.

Indeed. A class 114 unit was painted in SYPTE livery, despite the fact that it had to cross three county boundaries to get to South Yorkshire from its home depot in Lincoln, and could be seen in regular use as far away as Skegness or Bridlington.

Exactly the same as what would happen now.

Bit of a waste of (taxpayer) money to relivery a train only a few years after it received GBR branding, though I suppose it's no different to how c2c, EMR and CrossCountry have been reliverying trains lately.
Same waste of taxpayer money if they decided to relivery a Northern or EMR train today.

After all, Strathclyde Transport orange livered Class 156 did wonder away from the Strathclyde area to places like Stranrear and Newcastle upon Tyne (that's in the Tyne and Wear PTE area). Unit 156502 even went to Utrecht in '89.

When the transport minister says it’s been designed “in house”, does this mean it’s been designed by people who have never designed a train livery before.

Therefore they won’t know about stuff like not repeating the same front carriage design on every carriage

There were quite often Strathclyde orange 101s (or perhaps it was the same one) around Manchester and North Wales right until the end. Also Network SouthEast 101s a few years before that.

(Plus if it was loco hauled you could have any number of differently painted coaches on it, although that's not something that'll happen again of course!)

It looks probable that the GN inners will become a part of London Overground, no decision made yet though.
That still leaves all the other GN services. With the heavy TL/GN intergration in terms of depots I doubt GN will be split off into a separate IBU - it is more likely that Southern could become its own thing. And the current branding is unlikely to change, especially seeing as 'Great Northern' is a longstanding name, that came about well before privatisation.

This leaves the question of West Anglia, which if we go by the rule of NR regions could only really become simply 'Anglia' along with Great Eastern. I would much prefer to see them at least branded separately as West Anglia & Great Eastern. Ideally I'd scrap this idea of NR regions entirely and brand all services out of London based on direction - i.e London North Western, London North Eastern, London South Eastern, London South Central, London South Western. Then the regions that these services spread out into could have their own brands for non-London services, e.g Anglia Regional. But as for IBUs, it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to organise them the same way as the branding.

Thameslink should stay as it’s not just the name of an operator but the name of a route, a fairly major and unique route. Even when it was called First Capital Connect, people still called it Thameslink.

Most operators are named after their routes now, with the actual branding being unrelated to the parent company (Avanti is the name of the TOC, but it is owned by Trenitalia and First). I agree as it is a very sensible name.

A number of 700’s are now running “debranded”, that is they are missing the diagonal stripes at the carriage ends. They are also very clean externally.IMG_0950.jpeg

And think how much money has been wasted from all the changes from the privatisation merry-go-round

Not sure whether to start a new thread. But a friend who works for a TOC sent me the attached picture last night, showing the 'new' GBR uniform.

To be honest I think it actually looks quite smart, it is giving a bit of TfL vibes.

The images of the people wearing it at the very least are very obviously AI. Awful.

If that actually is the final uniform, that looks very smart indeed! Quite impressed.

I think the friend might be having you on... I doubt they would use AI for something as simple as a model shot (seen very obviously by the belt in the model on the left) and then some of the lettering on the "uniform" looks a bit dodgy as well

I've no idea if it's real or not, but I do know that this is certainly the sort of thing that people will use AI for.

And BR gave us Ginster's Cornish Pasty wrapped 158s at Manchester Piccadilly and London Waterloo... ;)

Whether genuine or fake this actually looks quite smart and could be a lot worse.

That was a post privatisation livery by the Wales and Borders franchise. The first two units were vinyled in 2002. And yeah, they carried that brand far and wide!
There were quite often Strathclyde orange 101s (or perhaps it was the same one) around Manchester and North Wales right until the end.
Yeah, there were seven 101s in their former Strathclyde PTE orange livery operating from Longsight depot at the time of their withdrawal. Admittedly it wasn't dissimilar to the earlier GMPTE orange and brown scheme carried by the Hadfield 303s and Bury 504s.

Apparently according to a handout given at Brighton station yesterday to members of the press for the launch of the new look train, the names for each operator will be:

It doesn't mention any of the other brands (Gatwick Express, Heathrow Express, Stansted Express etc).

I cannot link to the leaflet yet as it does have an embargo notice on it until sometime next week
