Looks like the supposedly repainted 701 isn’t going to be making it back to Wimbledon today as the path is still yet to be activated. Strange considering the GBR event is tomorrow.

It will be interesting to see what it will look like with 10 coaches of flags.

SW19 in body, SE23 in spirit.
I wonder, if the intention was to keep this a secret (sort of indicated by running this train at midnight, unlike the running of the 387 at Lovers Walk during the day), is this work not possible at Wimbledon depot, where the train is going?

At least it *should* have 5 coaches in each direction, livery wise. The concept of that asymmetric pattern on a unit with an odd number of carriages makes my mind itch.

Of course, they may have wrapped each 5 coach half-unit individually on a 3/2 split!

701 006 is reported in service today on se-gen

Edited to add: oh ignore me; that's not a new one is it?! It's just the repainted one.

Should check before I react...

RTT has it running from Wimbledon depot to Waterloo about 1000, and then forming a Weybridge via Brentford service at 1222 (2s33)

Always wondered, what is with the Arterio branding? I've also seen it on the departure boards at Waterloo "This is an Arterio service". I've never seen it for any other train types

IIRC it's a remnant of SWR's plan for metro-style services, which envisaged speeding up boarding with door positions marked on the platform, as in Japan and Hong Kong. Passengers would line up behind Arterio logos on the platform and the ASDO (Automatic Stopping and Door Operation) system would stop the train with the doors lining up perfectly with the markings on the platform.

Quite apt that they are trying to portray a "new dawn" for UK railways on a train that was 6 years old by the time it carried any passengers

Any sign of a new path to bring 701027 up from Eastleigh?
No sign of a path today replacing the cancelled move of 701027 yesterday.

Also No sign of a path from Bicester to Derby today covering yesterdays cancelled drag.

I cannot be sure but I do not recall 701 drags happening on a Friday anyway. I seem to recall its usually Tuesday then Wednesday and or Thursday if the first run gets cancelled ?.

Also South Eastern announces City Beams.
I haven't been on SER much recently, but I think when I was there last month it announced all types (Electrostar, Networker, City Beam) useful to regulars, who get to know the different types and the significance (eg City Beam: no toilets)

The loco at Bicester has a path to go back to Derby on Tuesday.

GBRF also appear to be having another go on Tuesday at Eastleigh, loco from Eastleigh East Yard:

I'd guess the loco went off to the yard on the day of the move. More interestingly there are two paths for the loco from Wimbledon on Tuesday, one back home to Leicester and the other to Farnham depot. Possibly one of 004 and 040 might be getting dragged to Wimbledon for attention. There was a cancelled 701 move from Farnham recently due to a unit issue.

Thanks for spotting those.

Interesting the light loco goes back to Derby RTC via the West Midlands. Hopefully not a sign that this route will be favoured over the route via London for drags.

I wonder if the 701/0s you refer to (701027 & 701004/701040) being reluctant to easily come to Wimbledon means Wimbledon cannot be dealing with them and some more 701/5s at the same time ?.

The London route avoids a run around at Oxford where things could possibly go wrong.
At Derby there is no run around as they simply reverse the train from the station into the Litchurch Lane Works.
It may be that the train is also reversed from the Bicester MOD site to the main line, just south of Bicester Village station, thereby avoiding all run arounds.
If you recall the drags from Long Marston, where there was a run around at Worcester, proved problematic with the train cancelled at Worcester on several ocassions.
