The svr timetable above has just WCRC 57 showing Friday but 57008 showing Saturday and on bls gen it has 57010? So what's that all supposed to mean is it just the one or two or??
Also the FL 66 isn't showing anywhere
Don’t think a Freightliner 66 was ever advertised……
I’ve been keeping notes every time something has been advertised and visitor-wise I have the following down to attend:
20142
20189
D7018
55009
Colas 56 (56049?)
WCRC 57/0 (57008?)
GBRF 57/3
57604
FL 59 (59001)
DB 67 (67006)

Excellent news!
D7018 is staying on the SVR until sometime in July, then moving to the Gloucestershire and Warwickshire for a few weeks before returning to the West Somerset in August.

Drove 4S43 past Carnforth this morning and not long since passed again on a TPE service returning south. There are a rake of coaches just south of Carnforth station that need a loco stabled against them (to basically act as a giant scotch). For the past few weeks, 57010 was against these coaches; today I’ve noticed that 57008 is now in its place and 57010 has disappeared……could it be 57010 heading to the gala then?

Last I heard it's still 57008. How many coaches is it? We're supposed to getting 6 from WCRC...

This is a bit of a GM love-in (with a couple of decent exceptions) so I got my ticket for Bo'ness today instead.

Very understandable I think, I'm sure the timetable isn't on its final version but peeps need to be able to book cheap tickets and hotels

Think it was around ten Mark 1s it was attached to. I’m on 4S43 again today - I’ll have another look as I pass!
The stock move is supposed to be leaving Carnforth for the SVR today as well……

Yes l'm sure the line up will please alot of people but not me this time hopefully Autumn gala will be more interesting. You pays your money and takes your choice as they say!
The gala early morning and evening times has been the same for many years now but yes different locos are allocated different days so need to know what day to pick!

The rumour is Sulzer for the Autumn but we'll see. The lineup for this one changed enough times and we've missed out on the very modern stuff.

24, 25, 26, 27, 44, 45, 46 for the Autumn gala, a sulzerfest is what is rumoured.
Now that would be a very different proposition altogether, although surely they could squeeze a 47 in......?

WCR could have sent 47270 for variety it's been out on the mainline recently. Just a thought. But not a GM bodysnatcher is it?
I'm going to the GWSR sulzer fest in July!

I visited the SVR gala on Saturday and having bumped into a colleague at Bewdley did so again on Sunday. I have got to say they know how to put a gala on even if the local cows decided to get a little bit to close to the action! Another great selection of locos even if some of the allocations were a bit maddening. I think I get why but it is still maddening! How they put these rosters together is incredible. It was a fantastic event.

This is a hell of a list of locos:
  • D7018
  • 55009
  • 56049
  • 57010, 57306, 57604
  • 59001
  • 67006
  • D9551
  • D8568
  • 20048, 20189, 20142
  • 33108
  • D821
  • 46045
  • 50033 & 50049
  • D1015
  • 09107
  • 101 DMU
I don't think you could get them all in one day and I don't think I managed it in 2 days!

I was a bit apprehensive about the Saturday as it has been mad in the past but this year it seemed a lot less crazy. Perhaps the GM stuff put off the hardcore bashers. I have never been worried about that sort of thing and just want an interesting and enjoyable day out. There were few top men this year as I guess most Deltic top men are no longer with us and no one wants to admit to being a class 57 top man!

The DMU drags were a fantastic idea as it allowed many different locos to be sampled in a comfortable environment and without the vehicles being swamped although a Deltic hauling a 3 car 101 was perhaps a tad over powered ;)

I thought the 56 and/59 runs would be idiot magnets but they were also quite relaxed. The only issue on the Saturday was the youth team. Sadly there were quite a lot of 12-15 year olds acting up, rushing about, shouting silly things and making hand gestures out of the windows. It is tiresome and embarrassing lads.

The Sunday was very calm and relaxed. Only issue was a pod of youth teamers acting up and swearing ( standard lack of confidence/trying to look like the big man stuff) which dragged the ambience down a touch but we just moved away from then and got another beer, something they couldn't ;)

I was in the fourth coach of the cowex, there was a lovely brown heffer too but delay of only about 10-12 minutes.
It was worth the thrash when the 20 got going again so l was only just behind you 43096!

33108 is going to the Bluebell Railway on loan for the summer - doubt it'll go back until after the beer festival in September.
And the SVR Autumn Diesel Gala is the first weekend in October.

There were more cows later. About a dozen and in eymore cutting next to Victoria Bridge.

I went along on the Friday and my friend went Friday with me and Saturday, the one thing that was very noticeable on this year's Gala was the lack of crowds, I went to the Bo'ness Gala on Sunday and from the first train to lunchtime the train seamed very busy, one thing to note is of course there is only one train in traffic at a time so everyone is on the same train, but the difference between the two galas was stark, the svr Gala just seamed very lacklustre compared with last year's effort, it was of course that a lack of AB freight locos was what was missing, and it's them what brings in bums on seats. I know some just go for the heritage locos but I don't know why you pay Gala prices for them when you can do a running day for half the money get more mileage and not see anyone that triggers you.
Hopefully next year's will be back up to people's expectations

And yet early figures point to comparable numbers to previous galas.

Originally a 93 was hoped for. To the point that it was still listed on the copy of the WTT that was sent out with some rosters.

That many well be the case, but the actual numbers were health.
While there was some trouble from passengers, it was less than what I've encounter previous galas. For one, I didn't have to shout as much at passengers trying to open doors before that train stopped.

People go to galas for heritage locos because galas provide the opportunity to experience a variety of traction on an intensive timetable. Sorry if that triggers you.

I was at the SVR on the Thursday and it didn't seem lacklustre, or particularly quiet to me, then. I was slighty disappointed that 56049 did not work in the morning but the DMU drag behind 09107 (standing room only) made up for it.
Went on the Thursday myself - definitely busy; the 0810 departure (59001) was already well loaded around 15 minutes before departure. Our group ended up near the back and only got a seat in one of the compartments because a friend of one of our group was sat in there and let us join him! The DMU drag with 09107 was definitely well loaded too, although we travelled on the DMU on its inward working so that we already had seats for the drag!
