Looks to be frozen in time of last few months.
facebook link newport sims

In the Facebook group article, click the comments and there are some pictures of SIMS Newport, assume recent. Not my photos but belong to Gary one of the group contributors. I did not need to log into Facebook to see them despite the login prompt!
Thank you for that, I don't do Facebook so that's handy.

Not sure if this is the right place for this, but I saw the coach below on a lorry at junction 24 on the M1. From what I can make out it's part of a class 455? I'd be interested if anyone else has any more info on what it is or where it might have been going.

Cheers

making it's final journey to Wards scrap yard like all the others that are still at Derby Litchurch Lane will be doing soon.

Yesterday at ~13:00 I saw a red 455 intermediate coach on a low loader, going north at M1 J28 (A38 / Alfreton / Mansfield). Not sure if this is the same coach as above - J28 is too far north for Wards in Ilkeston.

Does anyone know if 5868 still exists, or has that now been taken to Ward’s for scrapping?
Carriages from this unit are now on their way out of Derby, 50/50 scrap or long-term static use somewhere, though most people are saying the unit is being scrapped.

One carriage was apparently seen in a photo on FB, however I cannot find the photo myself, so if someone could locate it and re-post here, that would be appreciated.

The photos are on the Southern Electric Group FB group but I don't think Forum rules would allow me to re-post here.

Is there any significance to unit 5868 other than the special livery?

Lot of debate on FB groups over whether or not Porterbrook has banned the sale of anymore 455s and all will be scrapped

Meanwhile saw two 458 sets (413 and 415) at Woking on Sunday doing a run to Kew Gardens

One coach of this unit was on a low loader at junction 24 M1 yesterday evening. If it is like all the others that have been seen there it will be heading for scrap.

458/4s have been going to Woking for a couple of years now. Usually just on a Sunday when the Weybridge services are diverted to the Woking bay. They also go to Kew Bridge (not Gardens).

None. The unit was completely shagged and only made fit enough for the move to Derby for the event. Anyone wanting to preserve it has a heck of a job on their hands and to be honest I can't think of any reason why they wouldn't pick a healthier unit. Cost of a new lick of paint is peanuts compared to other costs.

I mean, we have this picture of one quarter of the train heading up the M1, destination unknown...
Frankly there's a crap ton of wibble on X about where it's going that I don't even know anymore, and to be honest, I don't want to know anymore.

There’s a whole thread about its confirmation!
Indeed, here is the first post from the relevent thread - took a bit of digging.

The forum may be interested to know that Southern Electric Traction Group (SETG) has posted on their social media accounts (e.g. X and Instagram) that there will be some sort of announcement at 16:01...

EDIT: as per the post below, unit 455871 has been secured for preservation:

It has also been confirmed via a Facebook post that 5871 will be named ”Roy Watts MBE”.

On a slightly different (or not) subject.

Does the fact that the run down of 458/4s seem to be imminent perhaps mean it is logical for this thread to stay open beyond the last (scrap) moves of the 458/5s - so for even longer ?.
The two events/sagas seem to overlap and are all connected with the same TOC, ROSCO and cause.

The Class 458/4 SWR updates thread is linked here.

The latest thread for speculation on Class 458s is linked here.

I think it was poorly worded, but 5871 is the one the SETG have.
Sorry; of course it is! Doh! I read the original post as if to suggest a further example had been saved, without checking the number!

Ilkeston wards recycling, it did not make its way into preservation as porterbrook ‘Allegedly’ prohibited the sale of it into preservation.
If you own something you can decide it's fate, it's not prohibition.

I am led to believe that 5868 was not in Porterbrook ownership at the time of decision and was instead in the ownership of Opus group who handle the sale of units to dismantling companies. Porterbrook have interfered and refused the sale of 5868.
