I arrived at platform 5 (Up slow) from the North this evening at about 19:15.

There was a northbound LNR train in platform 4 (Up fast) with a few more significantly delayed trains queuing behind it on the up fast.

What was preventing the down lines from being used at that time?

Track defects reported at both Brinklow Junction and at Nettle Hill (near the M6 overbridge) on the Down Trent Valley.

More delays tonight, line side fire near Tamworth. Southbound have been diverted via Bescot and lots running 90 mins late. Looks to be open again now.

Still ongoing - multiple northbound been diverted via the Coventry way instead. WCML the last couple of weeks has been a disaster.

Currently onboard 1F36 heading to Liverpool Lime Street, just been confirmed that we're diverting via Birmingham, and will be making and additional call at Birmingham International to allow people to get connections.

The automated announcements are also announcing the wrong stations which is providing me with some entertainment

NR weren't expecting to reopen the Trent this evening. Fire was just south of Atherstone, causes damage to signalling cabling. NR were stating that they couldn't offer a reliable service with signalling at it was and so lines closed pending repair work.

Saw a signal randomly changing aspect on its own (should have been at danger/red).

Is it known yet what the cause of the fire was? Hopefully not arson - right call to shut everything given the signals behaving like Christmas trees.

Any idea where exactly the fire is?

From memory the approach to Atherstone from the south is fairly rural.

Bradley Green area, very rural!

The embankments were 'bone dry and hot to touch' according to the RIO who attended the train, hard to know whether it was caused by the electrical system or not. Caused considerable disruption unfortunately.

No reports of people being lineside and very rural so highly unlikely IMO.

Between Atherstone and Polesworth if I'm thinking of the right place?

Had a few days of rain this week and even 10 minutes of hale on Wednesday, clearly not enough though in that case!
