When purchasing tickets online to collect at a station, why does it ask which station I’m collecting the ticket from?

Sounds like a stupid question I know, but why does it ask what station I’m collecting my ticket from if it then tells me that I can collect the ticket from any station I wish, and don’t have to collect it from the one I’ve selected?

This is to check that facilities are available at the station, and to advise of any relevant collection times.

I would advise avoiding TOD (ticket on departure) collection, and use e-tickets, wherever possible, as there can be technical issues and it's a very outdated system these days, which is being phased out.

So that you select a station that supports ticket on collection

Yeah, I always use e-tickets where possible but unfortunately the journey I do regularly involves London Underground as part of the journey. Would be interesting to see if TfL invest in e-ticket scanners at their barriers

They are considering it.

I think it depends on which retailer you use. The retailers that I use don't ask, but warn me if my starting station doesn't have collection facilities.

I had a situation this week where, having specified the station I wanted to collect, the TVMs at that station both said the ticket couldn't be found. Yet I was able to collect it about three hours later at a completely different station. The ticket had been booked a few days before, so it can't have been a timing issue.

Sounds like an issue with that TVM then.
