Getting a CCST ticket instead of PRT ticket for Rover?

Wonder how long TfW have left...

TfW have gone a little rogue compared to other TOCs who have chosen either TTK or Worldline and have gone for Vix as their supplier with a concept rather than an actual product it seems!

Competition is good but I am a little unsure on how well it will go for Vix as I am not sure there are other TOCs left to bid for!

Depends on the journey and window. Cross-London (and some others) will be CCST, the rest PRT, but only if using one of the upgraded windows.

TTK defaults to Bog Roll, but all they need to do is click CCST before they issue the ticket, TPE booking offices use this, most staff just issue CCST here

WMR are in transition currently, their Steatite printers (CCST) are being phased out

Thankfully SWR still on CCST issuing. Sometimes they spew out a bog roll version. But more often than not I’m buying a day travelcard Z1-6 which saves me from having a paper ticket.

I've used CCST season tickets for 30 years and have never been asked to remove one from the wallet.

If the ticket is multi-mode and the code can’t be read on buses (Freedom Travelpass in case anyone is wondering), the combination of needing to show the monthly version with a photo card and have both the code and the full printed details visible at once makes PRT very impractical. If anyone has found a a solution that doesn’t involve getting the PRT out of a wallet while running to catch a bus, I’d love to hear it.

Birmingham International today issued me a West Midlands Day Tripper on CCST; it was even still on the blue stock.

Given that the person ahead of me in the queue received their tickets in PRT format, I'd suggest it's a fair bet that any Rover / Ranger issued at International will still be on CCST.

Doesn't an all line rover have to be issued on ccst, in the same way as cross London + tickets? Otherwise the holder is going to have trouble getting through LO barriers, Mersey rail, etc.

Ah, I went to the actual ticket desk. The box still contains at least right or nine inches worth of blue stock.

I was talking to the northern manager who is in charge of their ticketing stuff yesterday at work, he said that even thought they are changing to worldline, they will still issue CCST, as he said they are changing the Newbury grey printers to the updated Newbury black printers, I’ll believe that if it happens

That's excellent news if it happens.

They'll also get Epson receipt printers, like other Worldline TOCs. The question is whether they opt to default to PRT or not.

Given Northern don't serve the London area, there's no real reason not to do so.

I would be very surprised if they don't follow every other Worldline TOC where it auto defaults to PRT, except where RCS doesn't allow

It would be odd not to when the costs are lower and TOCs are incentivised to issue smart (barcode on this case) tickets.

I am going to use a Northeast Rover next week with my partner (most likely the 7 consecutive one), but really want a CCST.

I could buy in KX before setting off (two days before using said Rover), or in Leeds the day before or same day.

Would you recommend one station over the other to guarantee CCST, or would asking nicely simply do the trick?

That's a shame. Just read on Railrover.org that LNER TVMs at KX issue them. Surely that would guarantee a CCST then?
