I thought we should all be more positive about the abandonment of HS2. Here we see a potential parkrun created on the Colne Viaduct.

Gemini_Generated_Image_3l92c33l92c33l92.png

Since this is not the realistic thread anymore, both cycle lanes go in the same direction. However, the decision of the cyclist in the image to go in the opposite direction means that the image has that realism of cyclists ignoring instructions (Note, in case anyone had a humour bypass, I do know the cyclists that go through red lights and nearly hit me when I am crossing Oxfrod Road are a subset and do not represent all cyclists)

Credit for the underlying image of the Colne Viaduct is to the BBC, the article containing the image is here: BBC report on completion of Colne Viaduct

HS2 said it had fully completed work on what it called "the UK's longest railway bridge".

Colne Valley Viaduct, which runs for 2.1 miles (3.3 km), is located near Denham, Buckinghamshire, and is the longest of more than 50 major viaducts being built for HS2.

The high-speed railway will carry trains up to 10 metres above land and water across the Colne Valley between HS2's London tunnels in Hillingdon to the Chiltern tunnels.

Note the quote does not mention the conversion to a linear park. It is an old article.

Are those phones in control ringing off the hook because of the insistence of the wiring teams to put the overhead wires through the footbridges?

I assume the guard at the station is ringing to ask if it is ok to breathe?

== Doublepost prevention - post automatically merged: ==

In this case, the guard presumably phones control from on the train to ask for permission to open the doors. The rear set is locked out of use, and some clearly fancy their chances of making it to the spare seats.

While we are capturing other threads with AI. Here is the Peaks and Dales railway.

Gemini_Generated_Image_71uzr271uzr271uz.png

With apologies to @Ashley Hill , Dave, Harriett and the children.

Underlying Monsal Viaduct picture credit to the BBC.

Link: 2020 Article on Rail Reopening

Nearly 5,000 people have signed a petition to stop a rail route being reinstated over a landmark viaduct.

The Manchester and East Midlands Rail Action Partnership (MEMRAP) has campaigned for the Peaks and Dales line to reopen between Matlock and Buxton.

The line includes the Monsal Viaduct in Derbyshire, which has been converted into a walking and cycling trail.

Campaigners said reopening the viaduct for rail use would mean losing "one of the most unique trails in the UK".

And although I’d said cheerio to them on the other thread, Dave doesn’t get any younger! :D
Proof that the active lifestyle is good for physical health, but rubbish for anti-aging

A big problem for me at the moment is the number of Class 67s on exam. I assume it is something like this:

The exam for one of the 67s has overrun: Link to 67 + Mk4 thread

With reference to Topological's excellent imagery above I feel obliged to point out the dangers of giving locomotives access to education. Before we know it they'll be getting ideas above their station and the tables will be turned...

Absolutely hilarious....and brilliant!

Next on the agenda....bolshie buckets?
Thank you. I could quite see the 27s having 'little loco" syndrome, strutting around and picking fights with type 4s. :)

In post 1,214 we met Connie Lingus-o'Leary, the ex-Stansted Express 322. Ash, Top and Rab helped Connie overcome her sadness at joining an unelectrified railway.
Connie has proven a Very Useful Carriage - popular with the passengers and much-liked by Fraulein Spraut-Fahrt, the new Controller. So, let me tell you another story...

One balmy morning, Connie sits inside the "female stock only" shed, in relaxing reverie. She drowsily becomes aware of others inside her shed - a leery gutteral male voice coaxing: "Yeah, work it baby, look at my camera" and juvenile snigger on her opposite side.

Startled awake now, Connie finds a blue carriage pointing a big track inspection video camera directly at her underside; and a red-and-silver carriage gawping at her with glee.

"Who are you? What are you doing with that camera? Why are you in the LADIES shed?" Connie fires her angry barrage at them.

"Hell-ooo" the blue carriage croons with sleazy tone, "I'm Cam 'Letch' Worth. I'm Network Rail's caddish camera-connoisseur and - ahem - specialist film-maker. At your service, hotwheels."

The red--silver carriage shrills: "And I'm Vin Diesel-Voyeurger. I'm a Virgin!"
"It shows"
deadpans Connie. "But why are you here?"

"We've been drafted in by your German boss, Fraulein Spraut-Fahrt"
Cam adds. "I've not met 'er yet - but I've filmed a few of Deutschland's finest and I'm sure she'll be a depot special pet - if you catch my drift." Connie shudders. Cam continues "You are normally in a foursome, but I can see you're doing a solo - no juice-collector. Where's yer power car?"

Before Connie can answer him, the railway yard loudspeaker crackles with static; then Fraulein Spraut-Fahrt's voice booms "Connie! First train of ze day eez in twenty minutes. Reisen-shine time!" Connie, very relieved, scuttles out her shed and away from the yard, muttering about male harrassment. Cam and Vin sit gloating.

* * * * * * *
Later that morning, as Vin returns from his first duty, he finds Cam loitering by the yard toilet and sprout-storage room.
"Cam, you look triumphant - what's it all about?"

Cam whispers: "I was out track-inspecting - thought I'd snoop - I mean, inspect - their old closed loco washing area and steam room, for a potential filming spot. I found a written note under the door. It says "Cam, you want to film a REAL lady? Come to this building first thing tomorrow - and I will give you a film you won't forget. Fraulein S-F."

Vin's eyes widen. "Describe her, Cam!" Cam's face contorts in his deep concentration "I dunno, not met her. But - I imagine a slim Teutonic temptress, bathing suit"; Cam chortles "I mean - you KNOW that film I did: Toby Tram Engine, Henrietta, Annie and Clarabel. 'Screw Coupling'."
Vin blushes, as a small pool of engine coolant leaks onto the track under him.

* * * * * * *
At sunrise the following morning, Cam and Vin hide either side of the former locomotive wash-area building, with faces expectant of entertainment. All of a sudden, the middle pair of doors opens and Cam begins his filming.

Cam's and Vin's faces drop when they lay eyes upon Fraulein Spraut-Fahrt, clad in her Edwardian-era modest bathing suit, striding purposefully along the track and then turning about-heel, glaring hard at the two troublemakers.

"YOU! You came here to work for ME. Connie has told me what you REALLY are up to. You TRESPASS in my ladies-only shed. You HARASS my best female carriage. You SHIRK your duties. YOU - are FIRED!"

Glum-faced, Cam and Vin slink out from the yard and back to the Other Railway. Our friends' adventures can continue.

But that's another story.

That is magnificent work @Sun Chariot

It is a shame that Connie did not pay attention when Virgin lost the WCML franchise. I guess being on Fraulein Spraut-Fahrts railway has numbed her to events on the other railway. I wonder what Connie will think when she finds out we do not have HSTs in England and there is a 142 which lives at Crewe?

Screw coupling almost makes it sound worth dusting off the old DVD player. Unless someone knows a non age-verified railway video site that carries such content. There did always seem to be something about Thomas that the books did not explain.

Is it possible that Toby's antics are indicative of the problems with the 398s in Cardiff?

So many unanswered thoughts and open ends...

Thys a really nice interior, I get the upkeep argument but I miss the 156 having carpets. The flooring now gets so dirty.

If 2001's rotary-cam poppet valve-gear and ACFI feedwater heater were successful, would we have seen the P2's class doyen like this in 1940?

Impressive images....but sadly not quite the correct livery for Kestrel. IIRC, she was painted mustard (upper part) and chocolate brown (lower). ;)

You mean it's not green underneath its umber and mustard?

Some enjoyable whatiffery there.

There are many issues here, but I think I now know how control works.
