Ah, Frosty Jack's! I used to drink that many, many years ago when I had no taste in cider and just wanted to get hammered cheaply!
That's certainly the main thing it's renowned for - you're not the only one with similar experiences from when they were, ahem, less discerning and less fiscally solvent in their youth!

I'm assuming the pub is behind the gateline, and therefore will only really cater to passengers?
Would gateline staff allow punters to enter without a ticket, with the pub as justification?

Ahh, the memories of walking to an offy that served me when I was 14, buying Frosties and some dilute to make it was palletable.

I'm sure the bar at Carlisle has an external entrance as well, although I fail to see what benefit a barrier line would bring to the station anyway.

The door to the car park may be just for bringing in the stock to avoid having to take it through the front entrance and to give an emergency escape.
Update: There’s a ‘beer garden’ on the car park side with access through the snug lounge. It’s not complete, yet, and on the day I looked it was raining heavily so no customers.
On the other side of the station, I passed an open double door behind the Heras fencing where contractors were installing what looked like support steelwork for wall panels but the heavy rain made me hurry past!

The car park on the old swimming baths side has been approved:

REDEVELOPMENT of land around Carlislerailway station can take a step forward after the plans were unanimously agreed this week.

The application, part of the council’s ‘Southern Gateway’ project, was for the land between Water Street and James Street and it was for the redevelopment of Station Road Business Park to include a 239-space car park.

The car park was proposed to be accessed from Water Street and is intended to serve as the main car park for the railway station.

Yes! As someone who changes there a couple of times a month it's been a game changer in terms of waiting.
A champion selection here...

Is it just me who thinks the rubbish WHSmiths could do with being replacing? A Sainsbury’s or M&S would be far more beneficent!

A Spar has opened a few months back, approx 2mins walk from the station if that, just through the entrance to the old courts where the bus stops are. It has a far better, and cheaper, selection of goods!

I’ve seen it! There’s also the Tesco and m&s foodhall about 5 mins from the station.

Although it does seem considerably better than WHSmiths at Warrington or Lancaster stations for example which are tiny by comparison.

The pie shop is now open in the old florist’s shop beside the entrance.
