Well summed up, I was going to say that’s half the problem but much higher than half with these player power mercenary modern day scenarios.

In one of the most dramatic finishes of the season, York are very deservedly going up to League 2, having scored in the last minute of stoppage time, at second placed Rochdale, who had scored just one actual game minute earlier, which had briefly put them top.

There were 6 minutes of stoppage time, but the goal goes down as the 13th additional minute, because it took so long to clear the pitch after Rochdale's goal.



Rochdale deserves to go up too; it's disgraceful that 2nd place in the National League doesn't provide automatic promotion, but they still have the chance through the play-offs.

It's not right that any team with 100+ points doesn't go up automatically.

Both teams have been known for very late goals this season, so the two goals in stoppage time was very fitting. Do we have any Rochdale supporters on this forum? You must be feeling gutted right now, but hopefully you will go up at Wembley on the 10th of May.

York City finish the season with an average attendance of 6,657, which is higher than five League 1 clubs, and is only going to increase next season. Recent matches have been sold out, so hopefully the ground will be expanded soon!

Did you think that four years ago when York went up via the national league north playoffs having finished fifth, 21 points behind second placed Brackley?

The league has two promotion places, it’s up to them how they use them

Or are you saying it be three up / three down? Yes, absolutely, of course it should. And you could argue it should be four each way as they’re both 24 team divisions. But if you think the EFL will vote for it I’ve got some turkeys that want to vote for Christmas

That’s a strange stance. Hitting an arbitrary points total should guarantee promotion? You could argue it’s as much about the weakness of most of the rest of the division as it is the strength of York and Dale. (And Carlisle too, they got 95)

Everyone apart from the people who make the decision, and people like me who think it should be 4

Promotion and relegation between 24 team divisions should be 4 each way, as per leagues one and two

The only reason it’s 3 between the championship and league one is a historical hangover from the championship being a 22 team division so really that should be changed too

An attendance of 1,950 at the Dream2Reality Stadium, swelled by a large travelling away support saw Bury take a 10th minute lead, then two further goals in the 53rd and time added on at the end achieved the win that they needed.
They have now achieved sucessive promotions

Second place AVRO finished just two points behind Bury and ran riot in their home match against bottom club Darlaston Town, 8-0 up at half time and winning 13-0

They were 3rd when he left and finished 8th, they faded badly in the second half rather than collapsing at the end

He scored 25 in 24 games for Merthyr this season - I knew he had scored quite a few, didn’t realise it was that many!

2nd-placed Portishead, meanwhile, have failed ground grading and have appealed. The appeal is on Monday - so as it stands, the playoffs are Portishead against Shaftesbury and Malvern vs Winchester - but they could end up being Malvern vs Bishops Cleeve and Winchester vs Shaftesbury!

Results from their last six league matches confirmed the escape from relegation for Hyde, who had finished just outside the play-off places in the two previous seasons. Michael Clegg as the third manager this season, has really motivated the team to the extent that they defeated 3rd place F C United of Manchester (away) and 7th place Gainsborough Trinity in the final two league matches.

Hyde scored in the 10th, 27th, and 32nd minutes with Gainsborough scoring a 74th minute reply. which saw Hyde finish in 15th position with 47 points.

Well, that was rather exhausting, but I'm glad you lot all enjoyed it!
Rangers at Tynecastle next Monday evening........we could more or less eliminate them from the title race if we win.......although we'd prefer if they had something to play for when they play Celtic.
Motherwell will be the kingmakers......both us and Celtic have still to play them.

But will the National League agree to three up from National League North and National League South? That would mean relegating six clubs. They seem to want it at one end but not the other.

The current non-league pyramid has been designed by symmetry-obsessed idiots who didn't think through the consequences. Every league below the NL is now one up, plus one from the play-offs, and four down. This leads to bottle necks and a high degree of jeopardy as 4 down from 22 is too many.

When two leagues feed into one, there's not a lot you can do. But there should be more tiers lower down the pyramid so the norm is three 24-team leagues feeding into two, not four into two. That would allow three up, albeit only two of the three feeders would provide a third promoted team, and four down.

There are currently only 21 teams in NPL-Premier which means only three clubs will be relegated. This means a reprieve for one of the clubs finisihing 4th from bottom in NPL-1E, NPL-1W or NPL-1W. So which will it be?

Bourne Town in NPL-1M have the best PPG with 43 pts ahead of Sporting Khalsa in NPL-1W on goal difference. The difficulty is NPL-1M is, in essence a feeder league for the Southern League Premier Central rather than the Northern Premier League. So is it fair that Bourne Town get the reprieve? Or should the FA look at all eight step 4 leagues when deciding who to save?
