Stage 2 computer tests and MMI were on the same day, 23rd February. Got a phone call the next day with the good news that I passed, was asked my preferred depot for the DMI and if I had any holiday booked.

They got back to me yesterday, saying that they’re prioritising candidates who don’t have holidays booked and are ready to start in April/May. I have 1 week holiday booked in August, which can’t be cancelled, so I’ll have to wait a while…
Wha toc is this for? I was asked the same thing on my phone cal about the MMI pass I have a holiday in May. I got the call end of Feb and haven’t heard anything back yet

Probably a generic email, you'll definitely get pulled in for the paper ones at some point.
Ah ok did think it was strange.

"You have successfully completed your assessment for the role of Trainee Train Driver - Basingstoke.

The next steps of the process will be an interview and you will be contacted by email to confirm dates and interview location."

Afternoon all,

I have my medical on Thursday and I'm due to start in June.

I'm just wondering what the take is on supplementation usage, Creatine, Zinc etc. Do any of you guys take them and have you ever had any issues re: flagging up on drug tests.

Hi Ryan, Congrats on completing the process. Do you have any advice for me? I have my OPC 1 this week and really want to secure the job. MMI and DMI sound challenging.

Hi mate, make sure you have plenty of real life scenarios to hand that cover the main areas of Safety, Customer Focus, Timekeeping. Can be work or personal related as long as its relevant, if they ask you to give a new example don't panic, and just use another of your examples. If you can do well in stage 1 it will give you the confidence for stage 2 and onwards. Just be confident and safety conscious!

Has anybody ever had to do any additional checks like a Sleep Study? I have a feeling based on everything I have read that at my medical tomorrow I will pass on everything else, but be flagged for a sleep study due to a STOP-BANG score of 4, but no symptoms/low ESS. Anybody successfully got through in a similar situation?

Same as me
Oh ok. They’ll definitely contact you soon. They emailed me last week to book the DMI but when I checked my account, there were no available date or times, so I emailed them. They replied:

“We have no further interview dates currently, I will reinvite you once I have further dates.”

Hi everyone,

I have my first OPC assessment with Avanti on 30 April and I am currently preparing using the practice material provided.

I would really appreciate any insight from anyone who has been through the assessment process. In particular, I would be interested to hear what to expect on the day, which areas to focus on most, and any practical preparation tips that may help.

Many thanks in advance.

Well I had my medical today, Passed everything and clinician was very happy. Only thing left is the ECG has been sent for Doctor review (So no answer on the day, apparently standard procedure), high BMI may be flagged by the doctor but hoping that because the Clinician was happy should be set now! Hopefully find out in a couple of days.

Has anybody been to a Network Rail assessment day for a signalling role recently?

Ive got mine booked relatively soon and nobody can give me any answers other than "group activities and an interview" when ive asked about what the day entails.

I am neurodivergent so the unknown is effecting how I can prepare and the thought of being in a room with god knows how many strangers is making me spiral a little.

I am more than capable of doing the job and working with others but this assessment day is obviously a very different scenario which i imagine sends even neurotypical people into a bit of an anxious mess!

*EDITED TO ADD*
I emailed a couple of days ago requesting reasonable adjustments but I'm getting no answer. This is my first time asking for reasonable adjustments following an interview earlier this year that destroyed my confidence as it was completely autism-UNfriendly.

Any help is greatly appreciated

Thanks

Your neurodiversity allows you to ask for reasonable adjustments to the recruitment process under the Equality Act.

You could ask for an overview of the group exercises to be given to you before the assessment center as a request for a reasonable adjustment.

Assessment centers are not meant to be easy and they won't give you answers but it is reasonably common for people with specific communication or processing differences to ask for the questions in advance.

I had to phone, I didn't hear for two days and they forgot to send me a copy! Apparently it was all signed off same day but had to phone this morning to ask for results, told I passed no concerns or restrictions. I would maybe give them a phone and go through to the Train Assessment department and ask.

I've just called, been told that I've passed and they've sent over my results to management! I was on the same boat as you regarding BMI etc. but now I can breathe the sigh of relief.

Hello guys,
Recently applied for Arriva and I passed their stage 1 assesment and have been invited into stage 2, been doing a lot of research and I have gathered a lot of information now im practising TRP1B,TRP2 which they have in their stage 2 i have a few questions about these tests when you are at the opc.
During trp1b do they first play audio and let you read the text with audio and then start the counter for 5minutes to do your notes or does the counter start simultanously as they start the audio?
TRP2 dials and cables got the practise material and i see people saying this has thrown them off is there something specific the practise materials don't show discuss that is there during the test as I found practise material extremely easy and it says it will be cables instead of arrows but I dont think that will be the only difference?
Also VSE cant find any decent practise material anybody can recomend anything besides OPC one or has more info of what happens here?

Trp1 they play the audio first then give you the 5mins to read and make notes after the audio. Trp2 most of the practice documents don't show that the dials are often split in 4 and that you need to also do an additional prioritizing check based on if two dials both have their needle pointing in the same colour then you must order the two dials in order of lowest value first.

Many good posts and threads on here, if you search the test names.

Make sure the audio matches the written info, they played the wrong audio on mine which was a tad confusing

I guess it depends how you learn best but I just completely ignored the audio and just used it as extra time to read the passage, to be honest the sudio seemed pointless to me

I am using ai to make up stories about cab of the train and what must be done when certain procedure is being carried out safety, uncoupling, door jams, brake pipe pressures etc.. i copy the story to a text to speech, close my eyes while listening to text and visualise it, then set timer for 5minutes read the text and draw everything out and then do the quiz with 18 questions seems to be working for me.

Yes I read your thread I saw it at first and thought they intentionally trying to confuse people but good thing you pointed out otherwise ....

What were your passages about? I read that its either the glop or like breaking systems for trains, and practise material its about train operating their lights?

mine was braking system but I wouldn't get too hung up on what passage it is, it's irrelevant, the test isn't what you know about train braking systems, it's a test to see if you can take in and retain the information presented, the passage could just as easily be something none railway related like a recipe or how to cultivate Peruvian begonias and the test would be the same

Hi everyone! I have my stage 2, computer assessments and MMI at the OPC for GTR next week. Of course assuming all is positive with the computer assessments, with the MMI could you use a similar scenario for multiple questions or do they prefer something new each time? Just curious as I have a few stronger examples that would fit into a lot of different questions but don’t want to repeat myself too much if it’s not as desirable

Yes, you can use even the same scenario based on the instructions they give but you’d want to clearly separate the skills each one demonstrates so that they’re clearly different answers. I’d probably not want to use the same scenario more than twice, and worth having some back up answers just in case they ask you for a different one. Best of luck!
