I've always used a pin-drill with 0.5mm or 0.7mm drill bits (OO and HO models).
I have used medium-length etched brass handrail knobs for steam locos and some diesel cab handrails (Peaks).
The other locos - and carriages, wagons, I have bent 0.5mm or 0.7mm brass wire to form a 90 degree angle, in the same way G mentions above.

Expo do a little set of hand twist drills down to 0.2mm for under a tenner. You can get a little screwdriver type grip for them, and there's a fancy Archimedes type version too, but I just use my fingers.
On the topic of acquisitions, I was chuffed to see the Dapol N class 87s are out, so I look forward to receiving Stephenson in banger blue and Iron Duke in IC Swallow in the post next week.

I'd love to say yes to appear impressive, but the real answer is of course not! I've only used them on a loco once, to make some wee holes to add some 3D printed electrical gubbins to the roof of my 81!

I may have snuck in some kits lately off eBay. Parkside PC27 slope sided 16T Mineral, four vintage Airfix 16T (1/108) kits (and a part completed cattle van....). I also saw Dapol were finally offering their unpainted Banana van bodies again for a couple of quid each (so I got 6...)
The Bananas, with a bit of work, make up fine 12T, diagram 1/246 vans along with Red Panda underframes - the basis of a good Geest Banana train to Lingfield... Will need some ex-Ratio 541 Banana kits too (for 8T 1/242, 1/243, 1/244 vans...) - I'm also massively short of bearings and wheels for some reason that I can't comprehend...!!

A couple of mundane additions for my new layout, a crew depot/office and a TMC customised container that will be used as a lineside storage container for the civil engineers.

I'm looking forward to seeing it. I saw it fairly often but only snared one 35mm photo (1988) of it close up.
I had a few fine long runs behind it, but it didn't seem to work passenger services very much in the blue days, and was then sent off to RfD on sectorisation, I think.
No operational AC electrics were particularly rare for haulage back in my day, but 87101 was probably as rare a turn as any of the older AL classes. (81-83 were still my favourites though!)
Ooh that’s rather lovely. Fantastic detail on the roof and bogies.

The to-do pile has grown yet again... With more Bananas.... A bulk lot of six Ratio 541s which were well priced, and I've been looking for them for a while. They will (eventually) compliment the six Dapol 1/246 vans (once I get chassis for them), and I can build up 1/242 vans, with a bit of plasticard the adaptations for 1/243 and with plasticard and a Red Panda underframes, the 1/244 van...

More like years! (Cricket season now, that's my life shot for the next 4 months or so!). I have got 7 wagons on the go in various states of painted/assembled-ness though...I think you’re going to be quite busy for a few months.

Looks super - the panto looks excellent!
Thankfully, someone has assembled it for me already, and all I need to do is add a bit of light weathering, because I want it to just look a couple of weeks or so ex-works.
You, on the other hand, look like you have a lot more work ahead of you!
I hope you can fit it in between cricket matches!

Had a small tot up this evening, I have about 40 wagons/NPCCS, and 8 coaches of some sort to work on.... and that's without weathering RTR stock! Erk!
At some point I might think about tracklaying, but, TBH, that can come later when kids are a lot more self-sufficient, and I approach retirement!

In fairness, I have my own list of stuff to do that doesn't get done, let alone with her's (but I did get taken on a surprise B&Q plant buying trip at lunch today - I'll not complain too much (and I like gardening), esp given I know what's in the post to arrive tomorrow...)

So, the items arrived today - I had been idly browsing eBay and had seen these, but had written them off as too expensive. Then, I got notification of price drop, and it was extremely generous, with all the others in the range still near RRP. So I bought 2. And 15 min later they were £20 more again... No idea if an intentional price drop, or muck up, but, they arrived nonetheless!
So, two packs of Accurascale/TMC SR d1478/1479 Banana Vans it is! A little late for my era, but by getting rid of the TOPS panels, they could be anywhere from about 1957 to 1967... (Much as I don't _really_ want to scrub or totally respray a limited edition ...). I would have to renumber and weather anyhow. And the labels need to be Geest, and the earlier form of Geest labels - Lingfield was Geest... I've done myself an SVG of them so need to chat to Railtec in the future to get a sheet of them made up.

Went to Rails of Sheffield on Saturday on what can be described as a cosy 2-coach 195 from Nottingham to Sheffield (same scenario on the way back) where I got a class 755 for my model railway which is currently being built. Will take more photos
