Not sure whether this should be here or in General Discussion, apologies if I've got it wrong...

What's seat availability like on London Midland services between Liverpool and London (seat reservation not being available)? More specifically if travelling down this Friday afternoon and returning on (bank holiday) Monday afternoon, should I expect to get a seat without having to board too far ahead of departure?

There are no direct LM services Liverpool-London, you will have to change at Crewe or Stafford.

I imagine all 4 trains (2 each direction) will be busy, but I've only ever seen one or two LM services with standing room only on that route

You should get a seat - even if it is busy the majority of passengers seem to be more shorter journies so even if it is full you should get a seat before too long. You are best to change at Stafford rather than Crewe (unless you wish to take the longer 'scenic' trip through the Potteries). Keep an eye on the football fixtures though as they are the kind of thing that can tip the balance.

On LM? I can't find any direct service on LM between Liverpool and London on a weekday.

I've travelled many times on the Liverpool-Crewe-Stafford LM trains and never had any trouble finding a seat. The trains are 4 coaches and sometimes 3+2 seating - plenty of room.

Think he means 4 trains in total for a return journey,

E.g. Liverpool-Stafford Train 1
Stafford-London Train 2
London-Stafford Train 3
Stafford-Liverpool Train 4
