PTEG report bus services

PTEG has done a study on the impact of funding cuts and long term trends on bus services outside London between 2009 and 2014.

It predicts by 2014:
* Patronage will decline by 20%
* Fares will increase by 24% above the rate of inflation
* Service kilometres will decline by 19%
* Urban congestion costs will increase by £68m

It also concludes that if bus de-regulation is reveresed most of these effects could be substantially reduced.

That's a conclusion I could have predicted they would reach without knowing nay facts at all !:roll:

Exactly. Looking at the amount of services that have been scrapped over the years by the commercial operators up here, and I could have written a report saying the same thing.

At the minute I know that a couple of PTEs are going along the bus improvement route as they are normally cheaper than rail/light rail extensions.
