Comedic "things you would ban": minor things that irritate you

Why not check their menu online before your visit, then you're prepared? (Also for a restaurant).
Because that's not always possible or, as yesterday, my visit to Costa was unplanned and a last minute choice... (as it happens, I do use Costa enough to know what I wanted and they do display the food as well).

This is pushing the bounds of a "comedic" thing I would ban, but Ricky Gervais and all programmes, shows, or jokes associated with same. There are a couple of other attempted comedians I would ban, but they've already been namechecked in this thread and yes, I know comedy is subjective and I apologise for any offence!

Perhaps more in the spirit of the thread, but while I was making myself a ready meal for lunch I was reminded that I wish to ban film lids that just tear when pierced with a fork, leaving bits of plastic in your tuna pasta bake...

Things to ban - electronic menu boards in fast food retail premises (e.g. Costa or KFC) that continually change to showing adverts for specific items or just general 'feel good' images. I want to read the d**n menu because I don't frequent such premises often enough to know what I want to order without looking. The changes mean I have stand there waiting for the menu to reappear thereby delaying me and others from placing our orders. It slows down my 'fast food' unnecessarily! Grrrrr
Likewise departure boards at (bus) stations that devote as much time to page 4/4 with departures on in about an hour as they do to page 1/4 with departures I’m in danger of missing if I don’t see where they’re going from NOW.

The next stop screens fitted to Bee Network buses are irritating, they scroll so fast to the next page that you miss some of the info (although that largely to how fast the bus is going, & how close the stops are), & one annoying aspect is adverts they display, all i want from next stop display is the next stop.

Now one handy thing is the next stop displays show next train/tram departures when the bus route passes a station/Metrolink stop, but the display never pauses for long enough before going to the next page, which is normally some advert.

Gents lavatories where the urinals are set so high as to make operations awkward for anyone less than 6 feet tall.

Conversely, urinals where they are set into parts of a building with low celings / angled rafters etc so that those over 6ft tall have to contort their head in order to make use of said facility, and then have awkward moments lest any adjacent user considers that the head position is in some way ‘looking’.

In gents toilets I would ban those taps that which ever way you turn them they just spurt out ice cold water.

Continuing the theme, urinals full stop.

I'd love to know where taps like that are, as in every public toilet I've ever been to, the single tap is unyieldingly scalding.

Most railway stations only give cold water from their taps...
Do they? Most I've been to have had hot water, in some cases very hot water.

On the toilet front simply having cubicles and no gendered toilets seems a much better idea to me, no massive queue for the ladies yet none for the gents, plus I bet most men would prefer a cubicle over a urinal anyway. The ones in Lyme Regis work fine and are nicer than all the others.

Urinals allow for a quicker “throughput” (if you’ll pardon the expression) in a smaller area. Their existence (coupled to the anatomical difference that makes them practical) is one reason why the queues for the gents are so much shorter.

Also reduce water usage.

Ok i know i've started a couple myself, but it's starting to get a bit daft with the amount of trivia threads being posted recently, most of them by the same couple of members, that i've starting to find it quite annoying.

with more 'artisan' bread being sold than ever before

The word ‘artisan’ being used to describe products that are slightly more upmarket, as hustificaton for them costing twice as much. Bread being a good example. Coffee beans similarly.

It's the same with the word "craft" being applied to beer. I take it to mean over-priced keg.

People who can’t park properly, by which I mean people who drive enormous SUVs and park adjacent to pavements by driving over the pavement before plopping back down on the road. In my mind that ruins the tyres as well as the pavement, but of course with these cars it’s only the latter that get damaged.

People who block the carriage doors for filming their gala videos on heritage railways
Somewhat related: people wearing very bright coloured clothing who walk into the edge of the frame just as you press the shutter. (Also at a heritage gala day).
Though at least with digital it's not as bad as it was in analogue film days.

A couple of years ago I was doing a little ad hoc videoing on the Great Central Railway on Beeches Road Bridge when what I believe to be the town idiot came up to me and started talking and asking questions, ruining the shot entirely. He was very angry with me when I refused to engage with his insane ramblings.

What is it with this bombardment with trivia threads right now, particularly in the bus section of the forum, i'm starting to get annoyed by it.

I rather like them, but each to their own.

Could I please ban social media platforms from trying to "network" for me. I am so bad at tech that I'm fairly sure I may have inadvertently "followed" some people with no connection to me, which is faintly terrifying...

And the parking spots are not big enough for them so they can damage adjacent vehicles when opening doors in parking lots. Though never a fan of 1990-2010 minivans of similar size, they did have sliding doors for back seat passenger who were often kids.

Another observation is many big vehicles now reverse into parking spots using the central tv sized console to navigate.

To be fair, if they're using a reversing camera that's probably safer than using mirrors or craning your neck round - modern cars have big blind spots below the back window. When I back out of my drive, I now use my reversing camera - it's mounted on the tailgate and has about 150° horizontal field of view, so it shows any approaching vehicles before I can see them from the driving seat.

Do reversing camera screens show the view of the camera or reversed? The latter would be a similar view to a mirror of course.

It shows it reversed (i.e as it would be in a mirror).

Thanks, informative.
I've got used to reversing using (outside) mirrors and I wondered how difficult it would be to get used to viewing it direct. Probably quite difficult.
I remember many years ago on a children's TV programme where a bicycle was modified so that turning the handlebars to the right made the front wheel turn to the left, and no-one could ride it - unable to overcome the 'muscle memory'. Might be the same with the non-reversed image.
