If I buy a Super Off Peak Return from Cardiff Central to St Albans Abbey, travelling outward via Euston and Watford Junction, is it permitted to return from St Albans City via Farringdon?
They do sell season tickets from SAC/SAA, which is weirdUnfortunately, St Albans City and St Albans Abbey are two different stations on two entirely different (operational) lines, and there is no station group or anything that both are a member of, they both lie on totally different mapped routes, so no, you can't return from St Albans City regardless under normal circumstances.
In fact, you can even buy a ticket from St Albans City to St Albans Abbey, which would set you back roughly £15 (Off-Peak Day Single), however, you'd have to travel via London.
Can't find any destination code for both SAC/SAA in BRFares, however, there are indeed season tickets routed "AAA ST ALBNS ABY" for St Albans City-London TerminalsThey do sell season tickets from SAC/SAA, which is weird
That isn't valid. If you purchased a ticket from Cardiff Central to Harpenden then you could use that to start/finish short at St Albans Abbey/St Albans City as appropriate. If I buy a Super Off Peak Return from Cardiff Central to St Albans Abbey, travelling outward via Euston and Watford Junction, is it permitted to return from St Albans City via Farringdon?
Thanks Hadders, that is a brilliant suggestion! A Super Off Peak Return from Cardiff Central to St Albans Abbey with a Railcard is £74.55, whereas to Harpenden it is £76.15, so for an additional £1.60 I can legitimately take the routing I want. That isn't valid. If time really isn’t of the essence and the tea room at Bricket Wood is open (Thu-Sat), I would recommend it.Thanks Hadders, that is a brilliant suggestion! Slight concern is whether on the outward leg my ticket will open the barriers at Euston.
By the way, the reason for wanting to do it this way is that on the outward journey, time is not of the essence, and I have never travelled on the line from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey. On the return journey, I just want the quickest way back to Cardiff from St Albans.
Pleased to report no issues with ticket barriers on my outward journey.Tickets might not work barriers for a variety of reasons so don't worry if it doesn't work. For a bit of variety you could always take the Bakerloo Line from Paddington to Queens Park and change to the Lioness Line to Watford Junction.
Thanks for the suggestion. The station did look really nice, but as I am a beer man I pressed on to St Albans! If time really isn’t of the essence and the tea room at Bricket Wood is open (Thu-Sat), I would recommend it.
And a great weekend at that to sample the many pubs!Pleased to report no issues with ticket barriers on my outward journey.
Thanks again for the advice - much appreciated!
