As a frequent traveller between Carlisle and Oxenholme Lake District (Both AWC managed stations) I can’t help but notice the lack of information imputed for the TransPennine services. For avanti services it announces information about the shop, first class and where it’s situated, standard and where it’s situated and unreserved seating with occasional bits about bike spaces. However for TPE services the auto announcer (atos anne) only announces how many coaches the train has and if your lucky what end first class is in. Why doesn’t the auto announcer provide information about where first class is, unreserved seating, bike spaces and at seat catering like it does for avanti. I have heard it done before at Carlisle once so I’m wondering why it’s not a regular thing. Any insight would be great!

From personal experience of TPE, first class can be at either end (and not necessarily the end that's announced) and they don't have unreserved seating.

Coach D and often coach A on the Scottish services have the majority of unreserved seats. But there isn't a wholly unreserved coach, unlike Avanti.

Information screens are being renewed at Avanti operated stations (Preston was done a couple of months ago I think). Setting this up on older screens in the advent of replacement would mean configuring it twice, effectively paying twice, so this would be straightforward once all of the stations on the WCML north of Preston have the new screens in place.

It will announce/display what TPE have requested to, if anything else extra is needed, they need to change it in the back office systems.

It’s cost. As far as I’m aware, when TPE had more info put on screens etc at Leeds, they had to pay for it.

I don’t mean the screens as I’ve spoken to avanti about that and they only have limited space to put information on them - at no extra cost to TPE. I just mean the announcements information is very poor.

Half of it is, the other half can be reserved and often is a busy times.

I've been allocated seats in D twice now - once on Glasgow to Manchester and once Liverpool to Glasgow.
When asking TPE about this they said that coach D as of recently was apparently completely unreserved.

This most definitely isn’t the case at Avanti stations

As far as I’m aware Preston,Lancaster,Penrith and Carlisle all have them so it just leaves Oxenholme.

I think you will find youre wrong on cost to TPE. Given the former person responsible for this has replied to the thread…

I can assure you it does not cost extra. The announcer at Carlisle station has two rows of information to input (if they want) that’s where they add 11/9 Coach Avanti Pendolino and on the second row where the coaches align with the zones. The same is applicable for TPE. It either says 5 Coach TransPennine Nova 2/1 or This train is formed of 5 coaches and on the second line where first class is (if the announcer inputs it). There is no extra cost at all.
