CrossCountry XC Class 170 refurbishment

Had a refurbished unit yesterday and something was wrong with the seat I was sat in. There seemed to be padding missing from the seat back as the cloth was a bit loose and I could feel the metal seat frame.

Moved to the seat opposite and it was fine.

Presumably some sort of quality control issue, has anyone else noticed it?

That doesn’t sound good, I don’t suppose XC are looking for feedback at this stage, or at any other stage come to think of it. They don’t generally as a company give a toss what people paying to use their service think. Obviously there are very good members of staff who care very much but the culture of the company feels wrong.

Is there a way to report problems with seats etc? You sometimes don’t see a TM so it’s hard to report things at the time. Would they even investigate if you said a seat was broken through an online form? Doubt it.

Had my first refurbished unit last week (I didn't do much travelling during December and January). So what's the big deal? New seats and new carpet, otherwise it's the same Class 170 interior just cleaned up a bit. Seats are thinner and harder but offer more legroom. Six of one and half a dozen of the other, but it's only an issue because XC cram in too many seats in the first place!

Necessary, though, because a lot of the old seats were sunken and completely knackered.

I don’t think it’s meant to be a big deal with the 170 fleet. Removal of first class, plug sockets in all units and new seats/tables and carpet. Apart from that they all sport a striking new livery.

Ive been on a couple of refurbished 170s the past week or so, thought they were quite pleasent. Particularly liked the seats and noticed the difference when I got on an unrefurbished one afterwards.

Well many if not all of the unrefurbished ones look knackered inside.
Way worse than any acceptable standard given the fares people are asked to pay.
This work should have been done some years ago imho.

Was there any particular reason why a completely different livery was used for the Voyagers compared to the Turbostars? I personally think the Turbostar rebrand looks much smarter of the two. The only addition I'd have made to that is the use of the pale blue colour for the first and last sets of doors against the red/pink background like on the Voyagers, but then used a consistent livery across both fleets.

The wholly red/pink and dark grey coaches on the Voyager refurb just looks odd to me and will look particularly so when two sets are joined.

How many of these have been done now?

I was in Derby on Saturday a couple of times while having a ride out to Matlock and back and only saw refurbished sets, so a good chunk of the fleet must be done now.

I doubt very much if they are even half way through them yet. I take it they are doing the 1s first as none of the 6s have gone in as of yet.

Derby mostly gets the 2 car units and the 2 cars are the ones that have been done the most so far, I believe there's only one left of those that's still unrefurbished.

Of the 2 car sets: 112-116 are already done, 117 is currently in Crewe, leaving just 111 as the sole unrefurbished 2 car in service.

101-103 are the the 3 car sets that have been refurbished so far.

Anyone know if 170623 is just to await refurb or just damage repair? Not been out since its unfortunate events in March.

Is 170104 out yet?

Posted today on LinkedIn from Crewe which means it should hopefully be back in traffic very shortly. I wonder which will go next as it seems rather odd that 170112-170117 have been done, 170111 has been missed out and they have gone back to doing the 3 carriage 170s again.

No exactly refurb related but didn't feel it was worth making a new thread for it, but 170110 went to Crofton Depot yesterday, does anyone know why? Do the XC ones often go there?

I understand one of the XC 170s needs a new cab after a collision with a car a few weeks ago. Not sure whether it is a refurb or an unrefurb but it is likely to be out of traffic for months.

Sorry for the late reply, I've not been following the thread recently.
If you mean the train that was in collision with a car at Dimocks Cote Level Crossing in Cambridgeshire, I understand the unit was an unrefurbished 3 car.

Whilst I'm here, does anybody know how the refurbishment of the next unit (170105?) is progressing?
