I've bought a super off-peak single from Euston to Crewe, valid on LNR only, for a sunday afternoon. The Forum's ticket site has given me the itinerary:

- 16:22 to Milton Keynes
- 17:19 to Crewe

Given that the 17:19 service is also a London Northwestern Railway service that starts at Crewe, is there any reason I've been given the itinerary to change at Milton Keynes?

If that Sunday afternoon happens to be today, the latter service is starting short at MKC?
Looks like it's only starting short because of a "late incoming service" (the previous Crewe to Euston service, which I assume would have been the return service, was cancelled at Rugby due to a Fault with the train) - when this ticket was bought the Crewe service was still scheduled to start at Euston

Do you mean starts at Euston (at 16:45)? How much was your ticket? £42.00? Would have thought your ticket ought to be valid on the 16:45 West Midlands service through to Crewe (arrive 18:54). West Midlands website seems to offer it for next Sunday.

Surely the answer is that the train had already been cancelled. Different data systems will update with this at different times.

cancelling a part-route of a journey a week in advance for "a problem with the train" seems unlikely, surely? Are there any public-facing websites where we can see at what point in time a journey was altered to be cut-short?

If you contact customer services someone technical would be able to look into this properly, rather than having to guess without knowing the booking reference, search ID etc.
