018 can’t be quite ready yet to be delivered.
This paths have been in each day for last couple of weeks.

018 has been sat part in/out of the Q3 test shed at Merchant Park, the part outside has had several workers constantly looking at various parts of the front carriage.

Without making it into an offtopic trip report, I'll just note that on its second day in passenger service today 810016 appeared to perform flawlessly for the entire jouney (including working toilet) on 1D61 1705 St Pancras International to Nottingham.

Is is true or false that the later units are coming into service with fewer issues than the earlier ones (as we might hope), or is it too soon to say, or just random?

We would expect the number of service affecting issues to drop anyway as the crews get used to dealing with those issues when they crop up, so what might have been a "take it back to the depot and get the Hitachi team to fix it" in the initial weeks is now a "oh, just reset that breaker and carry on".

Definitely seemed better on my last couple of days training.

5Q58 test train from Merchant Park to Doncaster is currently sat at Darlington.

Over the last few weeks 018 and 019 have been on these runs.

Anyone able to confirm which unit is testing tonight?
Edit - confirmed via sight it was 810018 on test again.

013 has been withdrawn from service at Nottingham following a fault, potentially with the doors as it had two extended station stops at EMD and BEE.

That’s now 8/33 in service not bad.

I wonder why 017 isn’t ready for delivery yet ? guessing it still hasn’t moved from post production tent.
017 currently sat with its first carriage poking out of Q4 test shed at Aycliffe.

810022 just been shunted from
Q1 test shed to Polytent.

Does anyone recall other 80x classes having so many door issues? Is this a hardware or software issue?

What exactly is the issue with the doors, is it that they won't open or they won't lock or are they seizing from the pressure? Seems such an odd thing to have so many issues with.

It could be a case of people activating the emergency egress handle instead of pressing door button, these then cause issues resetting (if I recall in LNER/gwr etc it is right next to door and happens frequently).

It could be debris caught in the door runner preventing interlock etc

Wales (sometimes in England), thanks for replying!

Not the best place to put it then, is it? (Maybe it is for emergency purposes, but not so much for everyday use).

I feel changes to the announcements coming - "we will shortly be arriving at [station name] - if you are leaving us here, please remember your personal belongings, press the circular door open button and take care when leaving the train".

Sit in coach M on an LNER train and watch people getting off the train press the toilet door open button.......people press/pull first thing they see without knowing what it is they are pressing/pulling.

But don't worry if they open the wrong door as outside the toilet on the wall is a little map to help you navigate the facilities inside and their purpose ..

In braille isn't it? For partially sighted or blind passengers?

So it is a poor user interface design then.

On the occasion when the 810t I was on had problems with a door near to me the Hitachi staff were looking very intently at the entrance step. Probable reason - people standing in the vestibules (it's MML!) and discarding food wrappers.
