Bit of fun today on the M1/M3 from EY

Desti was and still is showing random destinations, somebody got on and started vaping, the bus seemingly had trouble starting this morning and only 11 people went to Pickering of whom only three got on towards Danby
What do you mean, showing random destinations?

As in it was showing Hull Interchange as an M1 despite being on an M3 service at that point, M3 but to Pickering, Paull as a 3S, Hedon with no route number, Beverley and then back to Hull via Driffield and Beverley. Seemed to clear up after we left Pickering for the Moors though and the driver thought it might be "gps"

First day of the Moorsbus season!
M1 is being run by an EastRider E400MMC
M3/M4 is (was?) being run by Procters' Volvo, and has gone on a random scenic tour of Guisborough, stopped on Westgate facing the wrong way for 20 minutes and then dropped off the tracking altogether.
M5/M8 is being run by an unidentified vehicle known only as 21006.

Apparently, the Procters/Compass M3/M4/M5 journeys should not have been operating today, they're meant to be Saturday's only, with the Sunday timetables in effect on Bank Holidays on Moorsbus. Bus on the M5 stopped tracking upon arrival in Helmsley, so presumably both buses were ordered back to base.

North Yorkshire seemed to be a confusing mess as to what was/wasn't meant to be running today, think Procters and the North Yorkshire Council services were effectively Sunday service, meaning nothing from either bar the Dalesbus 856, but then you had Hodgsons Coaches running their North Yorkshire Council contract services to a full weekday timetable (doesn't help I think previously when Dales & District held many of the contracts Hodgsons now have, they would often run a close to normal service on Bank Holidays, aside from Christmas Day, Boxing Day & New Year's Day, unsure when this changed with them?)

EDIT: supposedly YX66WAO was the bus on M5

Good Friday has always been a confusing mess, with the majority of Yorkshire operators running a Saturday timetable but not all, some running a Saturday timetable for certain contracts only but not other routes, neighbouring divisions of the same group running Saturday in one area and Sunday in another ... still, better to have buses running that weren't needed and could be stood down, than to have the opposite problem of neither operator running!

When I ran NYCC contracts they (randomly) stipulated Good Friday that buses had to run. It was the only Bank Holiday where services ran though…

Yes, a Moorsbus volunteer I spoke to yesterday said they very surprised to see that EY were running a Saturday timetable on Moorsbus. EY advertised Sunday timetables for everything except a handful of services yet some other services (18) ran a Saturday timetable as well and an E200 MMC operated a round trip between Market Weighton & Driffield on the X45 before returning to Pocklington depot.

Good Friday is just inconsistent when it comes to who is running what in North Yorkshire.

925 appears to have been time travelling today on the M3 to Danby as it got to Catter Bridge at Keldholme on time and then went to the future one stop later at Lane End before time travelling back to the past to arrive at Danby 3L

I am assuming something went utterly wrong with the tracking which is surprising because normally EY's tracking abilities up on the Moors are quite good except for the blackspot just coming in and out of Castleton

For some reason, it has tracked from Pickering up to Danby and then back to Kirkbymoorside all on the same journey, and only started the next journey after leaving Kirkbymoorside for the short hop to Pickering.
It's a common problem on bustimes where buses pass the same stop twice within a journey or tracking session that the system doesn't always resolve the correct time with the correct pass, which is how come you're seeing the times from the return journey shown for some of those stops. You can tell because the map has two traces along Blakey Ridge with -->--<--- arrows in both directions.

Had a nerve block on Thursday and told not to drive which meant I relied on getting the X98 home once I’d made my way from Harrogate to Chapel Allerton and then into Leeds. Luckily, for me, the X98 was 40mins late. Don’t think I’ve yet needed to use the X98/99 and there not being a delay.

Yes, I guessed... But its never done that before on bustimes and I did check EY's own app and webpage that also showed the time travel - I wonder if its just an issue related to 925 as that seems a very happy customer on the run

E200 MMCs 20306, 20307 & 20308 have transferred from Scarborough to Cleckheaton as Go Ahead West Yorkshire starts operating the 212 on Tuesday.

Pictures on Moorsbus Facebook back this up. It's been tracking previously as 24009 whilst at Fourways but now that it's at Procters seems to have the number of 21006.

They are always late because of the timetable and the route. They still use the Transdev timings which are too generous between Wetherby and Roundhay Park, so they are waiting at stops because they are ahead of time - Collingham, East Keswick, Redhall. The bus will wait at the Roundhay Park stop and then 1 minute later will hit the traffic queue caused by the traffic lights and then will be late at the Oakwood Clock stop, and then it just loses more and more time as it goes down Roundhay Road. There is then the lottery of will it do the full route via Roseville Road, Regent Street, Eastgate, Corn Exchange, Boar Lane, sit in the queue to go round the Mill Hill loop and arrive at the Railway Station stop very late, or will there be one of the random diversions.

The diversions are never announced and can be via the whole length of North Street, cuttting out Roseville Road; or can be via Byron Street, cutting out most of Regent Street; and all of Eastgate; and then when they get to Vicar Lane, the bus go forward to the Corn Exchange, or will it go up The Headrow and turn into Park Row and head to Boar Lane that way. No one except the driver ever knows.

They need to find a faster route and keep to it. The current route is the slowest route because of traffic. The route should be North Street, Vicar Lane, The Headrow, Park Lane to Boar Lane.

The roundabout at the bottom of Roseville Road; Regent Street; Eastgate; Corn Exchange; Mill Hill are so slow because of traffic. Everything is now chanelled down the narrow Mill Hill.

The new Evora buses are poor quality. Single glazed windows that vibrate like an old bus. The metal grab rails with the stop buttons that attach into plastic holders onto the seats that are not lined up properly causing the plastic to already be splitting apart. Not one bus has a working next stop screen. They just have speakers that boom out at too loud a volume - "This is the X99 service to Leeds". I am not sure why as that part is obvious.

Trio of new drivers to the M1/M3 today who more or less stuck to the route apart from Beverley

Seemed alright, but they were quite late getting to Pickering this afternoon and seemed aggressive in driving style which was noted by a number of people

Incidentally, we got the now usual welcoming committee from Coastliner who stood outside their shed at Malton who were timing how long we were on their stands for and taking pictures and videos

They were probably trying to make up the time they had lost on the M3 ... they did well to get back to Hull on time after being 10 minutes down at Pickering!
I don't understand why they have such a tight turnaround at Danby ... sure, given the lack of standing space, they won't want the buses hanging around there for a long time, but 3 minutes really isn't long enough, especially when they have to turn the bus round! I would have thought that maybe 10 minutes would be a better compromise, they would still have an hour in Pickering for drivers' breaks and it would reduce the risk of running late.

I bet it's tempting to encourage the entire bus to give those taking pictures rude gestures lol

Why were the X98/99 timetabled away from Byron Street? At least when First had it, it meant that you’d miss out the entirety of the traffic along Regent Street.

Transdev changed the route and Go-Ahead WY have simply kept Transdev's route and timetable. Why was Byron Street ever part of the route anyway? It is just a narrow side-street, full of parked cars on the right-hand side, with one stop that is never used. The main delay now is the rounabout at the bottom of Roseville Rd. The traffic lights are on green for 10 seconds, but no one can move forward as the lights ahead are red. The Roseville lights go to red again, the ones ahead go to green, as do the ones from Sheepscar Street South, which then blocks up Regent Street as the lights turn red again, and the whole process repeats.

First learned that years ago, and at peak times the buses were re-routed to travel the full length of Roundhay Road, then North Street, as the latter is bus only inbound to Leeds.

I have said it many times before - North Street, Vicar Lane, The Headrow, Park Row, Boar Lane should be the inbound route. Outbound should be via Vicar Lane and North Street too, and the service should be limited stop again.

Demand Responsive Travel Just Go (operated by East Yorkshire) will be rebranded to Connect2 from 27th April:
Connect2 North Lincolnshire is an on‑demand bus service designed for people travelling across the area, and it will launch on Monday 27 April 2026. Journeys will be bookable and payable directly through the Connect2 mobile app, where users will also be able to track their vehicle in real time as it makes its way to their chosen meeting point.

Using smart routing technology provided by Via, Connect2 will automatically identify the most efficient way to pick up passengers travelling in similar directions and take them to their destinations. The more people who use the service, the more responsive and efficient the network will become.

Many customers are already confident using apps for everyday services. For those who prefer extra support, help will be available over the phone or face to face from North Lincolnshire Council to get started with Connect2.

Connect2 will offer a fast, flexible and affordable way to travel around North Lincolnshire, including in and out of Scunthorpe where applicable. Fares will start from £2.50 for an adult single journey, with discounted rates available for under‑19s. Trips will be bookable up to seven days in advance or on the day of travel, either through the app or by telephone. The service will be provided by North Lincolnshire Council in partnership with East Yorkshire Motor Services.

The service will operate Monday-Friday 7am-7pm and Saturday 8am-6pm.

How to book
You will be able to download the Connect2 North Lincs app from Google Play or the Apple App Store in the coming weeks.

Using the app will allow you to:

a. find your nearest meeting point

b. book and pay for your journey

c. track your vehicle in real time

You will also be able to book by phone on via a dedicated council call centre 01724 297777.

Please note that this number will not be active until Monday 27 April 2026.

I never had the pleasure of one of the First services avoiding Roseville Road. I never remember the sorts of delays we’re having now, even going via Byron Street. Routing via Byron Street allowed those at the college to be able to get off the bus but it also avoided the roundabout at the bottom of Eastgate where the traffic built up.

Looking at anlaby road , there seems to be less electrics than last week which seems as if there’s probably yet another few weeks before they enter service, typical when other companies are getting them straight on and ey are taking months

I'm sorry but you keep grumbling about this and that "other companies are getting them straight on"...

Some companies have experienced fewer issues than others but many have experienced protracted issues with utilities providers etc. Arriva in Blyth had their new deckers arrive in December and they're still not on the road. I can't recall when the Truro P&R vehicles were first completed but it wasn't this year and First have upped and left in Cornwall in the meantime. Transdev in Harrogate had the unedifying practice of a diesel generator at Harrogate bus station whilst the infrastructure there was sorted out.

So it is typical...but not of East Yorkshire, just of the issue of major engineering works into depots. I don't know the specifics of each and every EV introduction and what the issue is in Hull. I'm fairly sure that EY wouldn't want to have new vehicles, incurring depreciation, sat doing nothing when they could be earning their corn whilst time expired vehicles soldier on with consequent issues of reliability.

As you say, operators have issues with the charging equipment not being connected to the grid in a timely way.

As far as I know they are just temporary, sorry I've no idea if dual doors are ok in Scarborough on normal services or not

Won’t they just be used on the college runs like temporary loaned in buses mostly are.
