Class 810 for East Midlands Railway Construction/Introduction Updates

013 was chucking out a fair bit of smoke from underneath the 2nd car this afternoon. It was heading to London at about 3pm. The smoke was coming out of a gap in the access panels towards the rear of the 2nd car (a few metres from the rear bogie). Was doing it the whole time it was sat at Leicester, I was on platform 2 and 013 was on platform 3. Looked like smoke from a dirty old diesel exhaust, just an observation on my part and looking at RTT the train arrived on time into STP.

Yes but remember it had only got to limp to Wigston belching out smoke then it would of been on Electric Traction..

Suggest it's timings on its return run from Pancras after Leicester might be more interesting.

Got to have a chat with the driver of 5Z50 (failed 1F50 with 810013), he said the toilet doors had gone bust again on the unit.

I was on an 810 last week, I didn't get the unit number, but I found it quite funny to see what appeared to be gaffer tape already holding some paneling in the ceiling together next to the sliding door between the vestibule and saloon. Still I think these are quite good trains.

Doesn’t fill one with much confidence!

Nevertheless, I concur - when running properly, they’re definitely decent enough.

Thats interesting, I saw that go past when I was out for a walk by the MML on Monday. Must have been testing or training, but on a Bank Holiday!

That's interesting, thank you for providing. It shows that they're getting quicker at turning around from Delivery to Entry with it being approx a month previously and now down to a couple of days.

I swear I saw 004 earlier. Turns out it was on a run from Old Dalby to St Pancras. I only noticed it as I am maintaining a professional interest in this thread, and it wasn’t your list!

Yes, it ran 5Q63 Old Dalby to St Pancras as a pair with 810003....I think they then split at Kettering with one continuing to St Pancras and the other heading back north via Corby/Melton Mowbray as 5Q65...9 and 12 were also out on test with 6/10/15/16 in service

003/004 are indeed undergoing 10 car testing and aren't yet leased by EMR. 009/012 will have been on staff training rather than test runs

Yes, that would be the one. I was in the car at the time waiting at the lights by the bridge so couldn't check what it was but it looked to be moving incredibly slowly. Thankfully not a train issue and more an area issue then!

No one knows, or not willing to confirm.
Last I know of it was when I saw it been roaded away from Aycliffe to Italy a couple of years ago.

It wasn't on anyone's reports from the open day last year at Merchant Park.

So 002 is the mystery.
Wouldn't surprise me if they froze it too much and damaged it that much that they need to build a complete new train.

Yep. That's the one. I was a bit further down the platform from you towards the rear of 013.

I was in Derby on Tuesday when 013 arrived for the depot on 5Z50 after being pulled from service at St Pancras, and got to have a small chat with the driver, where I asked the question of why the train was pulled from service, the driver said it was just a toilet door fault, so hopefully that means the smoke isn't an issue to the unit.

I was in Derby on Tuesday when 013 arrived for the depot on 5Z50 after being pulled from service at St Pancras, and got to have a small chat with the driver, where I asked the question of why the train was pulled from service, the driver said it was just a toilet door fault, so hopefully that means the smoke isn't an issue to the unit.

Could just be the preheaters or something-sprinters for instance belt out quite a bit of smoke when you start them up!
