Not sure if I got the question correctly - same general direction but would Alexandra Palace count? You can go via both Welwyn (west) and Hertford (diverge east) and still end up at Stevenage.

Catford (and C. Bridge) to London.
But neither leave in opposite directions.

Lancaster to Leeds via Preston (with a change) or via Wennington.
Also with a change, York to Bridlington via Hull or Seamer.

Presumably it is possible to go from Highbury or Canonbury to Clapham Junction either westbound via the Mildmay or eastbound on the Windrush line.

Wakefield Kirkgate to Leeds
Yep- from platform 3 via Outwood or from platform 1 via Normanton.

Halifax to Leeds currently can be done via Bradford or via Brighouse and Dewsbury. This also applies to Low Moor.

Brighouse to Leeds used to work for this, but doesn't apply at the moment unless you change at Bradford Interchange.

On the rare occasions that South TPE is diverted that way, you can do Huddersfield to Sheffield departing from either end of Huddersfield station, though I don't think any diversions are operating that way while the TransPennine Route Upgrade works are ongoing.

You could at one time do Woodford to Leytonstone direct or via the Hainault Loop.

In normal service you would would have to change at any station between Dalston Junction and Surrey Quays as the Clapham Junction Windrush line services only go to Dalston Junction (West Croydon/Crystal Palace go to Highbury & Islington).

Back in the day, you could depart the 'wrong way' out of Carlisle to reach Edinburgh via Newcastle on 1S15.
Plus of course, in the other direction, south out of Edinburgh to reach Carlisle via Newcastle on 1M04

When the Sleepers are diverted via the ECML, Edinburgh to Euston, leaving in both directions, depending on the time of day.

With diversions over the S&C, Preston to Carlisle, heading south out of Preston.

With the Severn Tunnel closed, Bristol Parkway to South Wales, heading the "wrong way" via Gloucester.

Nottingham to Peterborough via either Grantham or Loughborough. EMR still have the route retention services doing the latter.

Derby to Sheffield. With a couple of diversions you can leave the wrong way from the former and arrive the wrong way into the latter.

Same in reverse.

There are presumably booked workings (though maybe the EMR empties?) that maintain the knowledge to do so.

I have departed West from Leeds to get to York (via Castleford). I do not think that one has come up on the thread yet, but is a similar idea of a regular diversion to the Derby example.

And back in the day, one could depart from Derby Midland either from the north end (via Chaddesden) or the south (via London Rd Jn) to access the line towards Trent (and Nottm/ London).
Same with Nottm Midland - through trains to London departed either westwards or eastwards.
Then Trent station itself, which defied the rules of geography...

On the London Underground you have Euston and King's Cross St Pancras being the next stop on the lines in both Northbound and Southbound.

And possibly a different question, but from Euston to Camden Town on the Northern Line, both platforms are 'northbound', but trains depart from the 'city branch' platform in a south-westerly direction and from the 'Charing Cross branch' platform in a north-easterly direction.

on the same theme, Euston to Stockwell? the platform would tell you both southbound but they depart from adjacent platforms in opposite directions (Vic Line West, Northern East)

Edgware Road to Mansion House on London Underground.
Now that the Circle Line doesn't circle any more, Edgware Road is the only station you can do this without needing to change trains.

Circle Line services run Edgware Road - Mansion House - Farringdon - Edgware Road - Hammersmith in one direction and Hammersmith - Edgware Road - Farringdon - Mansion House - Edgware Road in the other.

Paddington, depending on how many, between Hammersmith and City, District / Bakerloo, surface mainline, and Crossrail platforms you count it as.

From Hainault on the LU Central Line, platform 1 & 3 trains originate and travel southbound for central London via Gants Hill, and platform 2 trains originate and initially travel northbound via Woodford for central London*.

* Currently, only some services take this route.

Ellesmere Port to Liverpool.
One direction is Merseyrail to the Liverpool loop line (including Liverpool Lime St low-level), and in the other Northern to Liverpool Lime Street (main station) via Warrington.

Chester to Liverpool.
Again Merseyrail to the Liverpool loop line, and in the other direction TFW to Liverpool Lime St (main station) via Runcorn.

An added curiosity is that both the non-Merseyrail routes here converge at Helsby, but then reach Liverpool via different routes (Warrington and Halton chord respectively). Meanwhile the Merseyrail routes converge at Hooton and then remain the same.

It's platform 1 for Woodford nowadays. P2 and P3 via Newbury Park. A few trains still do Central London via Woodford to Grange Hill.

(I already mentioned you could at one time do Woodford to Leytonstone via two different routes earlier in the thread!)

OK, i moved away from Barkingside in 1970 so didn't know that they had at last fixed the problem of going up the wrong flight of stairs only to find that the London train had departed ond the next one was on P3.

I present cheadle hulme to Cambridge, granted it takes at least two changes, but I can depart cheadle hulme in any of three directions, and I can arrive in cambridge from either direction. And all six combinations can be validly done without doubling back through the origin or destination (which kinda feels like cheating).

At every station on the Cathcart Circle trains for Glasgow Central leave from both platforms.

At Motherwell trains to Glasgow and beyond leave towards Hamilton and Uddingston (direct)/Bellshill/Whifflet.
Whifflet itself too: northbound via Bailleston or southbound via Hamilton.

Come to think of it, Motherwell to Edinburgh usually southbound via Carstairs but also daily northbound via Holytown.

Has anyone mentioned Anniesland to Glasgow Queen Street? Northbound via Possilpark or southbound via Partick.

Perhaps this is stretching the OT a bit, but any location accessible from more than one London terminus involves a journey starting in a different direction if, instead of catching a train from one terminus you use the Underground to take a service from the other one - going from Paddington to Waterloo for a trip to Exeter as an example.

Expanding the topic to include "by public surface transport", Thurso to the Orkneys can be done by travelling West to Scrabster to catch a ferry or East to Gills Bay to do likewise.
