After each tour, why does the Britannic Explorer return to Eastleigh?
To put it simply, it’s based there. There’s no further room at Stewart’s Lane and Belmond have decided to base it there. Just as the Royal Scotsman lives at Hamilton.

It also works out well for GBRf who have a depot across the station.

Looking a good webcam, birds and the railway. Is it a publicly available camera on you tube or website?
look for DYFI OSPREY PROJECT 2026: Live Streaming in 4K on Youtube. You won't always be seeing the view from the camera that points towards the railway

Does anyone know what coach type codes (such as SLEP) have been assigned to the stock used on the Britannic Explorer please? :)

I see there's a Cornwall tour from May 29th, but it's 'sold out'.

But I can't find corresponding workings in RTT!

Wondering whether it is actually running (in which case could someone point me to the workings in RTT, please) or whether it's really been cancelled.

Many thanks

They're there. GBRf/Belmond have Working Timetable paths they use for the Britannic Explorer hence why it wouldn't appear if you searched via STP.

If you follow on you'll find other workings onwards over following days.

Currently 217 mins late at Tywyn enroute to Barmouth, presumably dinner is served on the train.

Took nearly half an hour to cover the 2 miles from Carno Level Crossing to Talerddig, then over 2 1/2 hours to travel the 5 miles from Llanbrynmair to Cemmes Road.

3 hours approaching Machynlleth suggests loco failure, would this be the 37s ?

Ridiculous to rely on 70 year old diesels for a premium service, surely time the 37 were excluded from the network.
But, at the moment, what else can you suggest to haul it along the Cambrian when the only locos fitted with the Cambrian / Hitachi kit are the 37/97s?

Either way, I wonder how much longer TfW can remain patient with this screwing up their Cambrian Coast timetable.

Would a new-fitted Class 99 be compatible with the Cambrian kit? AIUI you can run a vehicle with newer baseline on older infrastructure but not the other way round.

Have to watch the route availability - I gather weight restrictions is why 37s were updated to work with ETCS for the route and not 47s.

Indeed, although it's possible on temporary authority to get locos exceeding the RA over a route. Class 66s haul GBRf's charters on the Far North and West Highland Lines, for instance.

Cambrian Line is RA5 throughout, what RA is a Class 99 if it's RA6 or 7 then the extra restrictions might not be too onerous.

I think 99s are 113 tonnes but the bogies do not appear as "spaced out" under them

93302, 97304 and 66744 om the train today.
That would be 97302 of course. Looking fine with 97304 at Machynlleth today, while men in orange fiddled about near the back.
I've not noticed the 97s having any such problems when they're on Network Rail test trains.

Yeah....cos that's why they're still being used....due their appalling reliability.

Furthermore you are unable to exclude stuff from the network just for being old.
