TfW Class 67+Mk4 sets: trip planning/experiences, diagram updates etc

Trying to take advantage of the tfw sale, is there any days best chance of getting one on Chester Cardiff & back. Also any ideas how the 1st upgrade works with the sale tickets

Same as any other ticket, take a seat in first and the guard will upgrade it. Alternatively check the Seatfrog app for any upgrades on there. The normal upgrade applies to any standard tickets/pass regardless of whether they were purchased in a sale. Chester-Cardiff is a £21 upgrade if bought onboard.

Bear in mind that there is only one 67/mark 4 stock train with first class accommodation and meal service each way from Chester to Cardiff on Mondays to Fridays only:

1V91, 07 16 Chester - Cardiff Central

1W96, 17 22 Cardiff Central - Chester

As quoted above by @MP393 , purchase a standard class ticket and then, if first is available, take a seat in the first class coach and pay the supplement to the conductor. You can then enjoy the excellent food service - if a chef is in board - at an additional charge.

Every credit to TfW that they have the highest capacity offering possible on 1W11 this morning. Despite the limitations of the Caridff to Newport blockade, they have managed to give the best provision for what becomes a very busy train nearer Manchester.

I have noticed in recent weeks that, barring disruption, the sets seem to be able to keep to time more, even on the services that stop more, such as 1W11 which I travelled on this morning. Bang on time into Manchester Picc.

It's been on a positive upwards trend for a long time running, they've definitely settled down and now rarely run into issues, it's now quite unlucky if something doesn't turn up as planned!

Its certainly improved dramatically with coverage now hovering around the mid-high 90%s pretty much every month.

Frustratingly tomorrow is one of those days with 2 halves of a diagram subbed due to sets out of traffic, 2 are planned (one on exam and another being fitted with Starlink) but a few delays on depot getting the 3rd rake off tyre turning has cost a diagram. None of them down to set issues but noticable to lose a whole diagram these days.

Given only 1 set is at Canton tonight (025/HD05), I'm can imagine that'll do 1W11/1V37/1W59/1V50 tomorrow... while 1W13/1V39 and potentially 1W63 will be unit vice if nothing can be kicked out at somepoint off Crewe tomorrow, with 029/HD04 working 1W96 instead (currently allocated 1V31/1W55/1V42/1W63 on RTT). That way there will be an equal balance of sets at Canton and Crewe ready for Thursday morning.

Purely selfishly, it looks like Easter came at the right time.

Ended with a 5-car on 1W11 on Monday last week, which was perfect and then there are a few weeks until I need to take it again.

The statement still stands I say. All of the sets that are out of use, are not down to the sets being faulty which still shows a good uplift in reliability, just a rather large chunk of bad luck!

Ahhh ok, not surprised by that. Presumably 67015+HD01 will do 1W13/1V39/1W61/1V62 in that case, with a 197 doing 1W55/1V42/1W63.
