DEL THIS.jpg

On this day 1st of April 1970.... The Rt. Hon Edward Heath MP, in the driving cab of English Electric locomotive number D8123, takes the leader of the opposition, Mr Harold Wilson, by surprise, dislodging his Gannex cap and raincoat. Dame Hyacinth Bouquet (whose presence we are unable to account for) makes good her escape.

Meanwhile in Leicestershire ongoing reliability issues with the new class 810 Auroras lead EMR to come up with a more traditional form of haulage.

What's Wonder Woman doing standing there with her hands on her hips admiring the scene? You would have thought that she would have been well-able to haul the failed train single-handedly at line speed!

What if Hitachi had entered the UK rail market in the 1970's? View attachment 201486
A clean version would suit an IET. Mr Hopwood please note.

Do you remember 46009 being smashed into the nuclear flask? I was 13 when this happened and by sheer coincidence was off school ill. Schools programmes had finished and this was featured on the News at One live. Some members of the Peak Army get the last milage in!

This was supposed to be an entry for the realistic thread. However, try as I might, I could not get Gemini to give me the 3 tracks that run from Syston towards Leicester and pass under the Barkby Road bridge. Gemini also insists on adding the signals even though they are not necessary and I told it not to.

The image is actually "Do you remember when kids could genuinely sit and wait for a half hourly HST and maybe a sprinter to Peterborough"?

The real location, as it looks today, is below. I cannot say that the new fence, or concrete barrier is progress.

Perhaps they would have had an older Japanese-inspired nose style. If not the classic bullet, then something like this?

Strangely Gemini won't let me depict WonderWoman as it tells me "I can't depict some public figures", so as a workaround I use the text "a woman dressed as wonder woman". Hence the WonderWoman in the picture can't help as she's an impersonator who has no special powers! ;)

Ah well....you can't win them all! All the same, I bet she gets a few admiring glances dressed in that costume! ;)

Do you remember the FOOTEX Football Specials of the 1970s? Here an army of “refreshed” Hereford United fans arrive at their promotion rivals for a key Division Three game in April 1975.

Somewhat uniquely Fulchester United have a stand that faces away from the pitch, presumably for people who don’t like football????

Gemini has really let you down with Wonder Woman here . Does Billy the Fish still play for Fulchester?
That's actually my Uncle Willy who combined going to the game with his superhero-themed stag weekend that year. After seeing the Bulls take all two points they had a great night touring the pubs of Fulchester as the Watney's Red Barrel flowed, winding up in Billy The Fish's nightclub Stuffed To The Gills.

Coincidentally he and my Aunty Fanny celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary this weekend!

Is that a young @JohnW1 under that platform 1 sign? :D
The guy on the far right has the right jacket and jeans and hairstyle but even in the mid 1970's you would not find me in that shirt i

A "plug" for an excellent AI theme as chosen by @Ashley Hill , on Show off your Realistic AI Railway Images. April's theme is "Do you remember...?" and it's stimulated a fabulous blend of images from numerous contributors.
I am getting much enjoyment from being transported back in time to the things I'd forgotten! :)

Do you remember the original BBC Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy?
What if the Sirius Cybernetic Corporation supplied the staff for Blackpool North? Genuine people personalities at last!
"Here I am,a brain the size of a planet and I`m punching tickets in a northern seaside resort!".
"Thank you for travelling with Northern Rail, glad to be of hinderance". chirps the barrier.
