Can't but think that there was a lack of joined up thinking at some point in the past (early SWR days) that didn't see (or dismissed) using 458's on 1T/2B (as per 2004) using 26 from 28 units as a base, thus throwing up (5?) x 444 and xx additional 450 for other use, be it on PDL and/or elsewhere.

I seem to remember seeing an image on one of the SREMG websites of a 458 at Eastleigh (with the caption stating it was running to Waterloo in service), perhaps they trialed it?

Because the 458/4s and SWR Refurbishments already have their own threads, and 15x refurbishments has absolutely nothing to do with Metro withdrawals. Why would you use a thread for two completely different purposes?

The "SWR Class 458s being retained" thread was locked last year so we'll have to start a new one for withdrawals of the 458/4s once they get under way. I'm not aware of any current open threads where we can actually discuss the 458/4s.

Not a scrap run, but there is a 5Z58 today which could be a 458/5 shake down prior to hand off, or it could be a 458/4 test run, or it may not be 458 related at all!

1st December from what I can tell.

Today at Little Moor Lane Bridge Loughborough. 37884 Cepheus with 455s at 14:12. Additional: trainsets 5712 and 5732.
The train was slowing for Loughborough North Junction so that it could switch from the Down Main to the Down Slow.
A little PS, just as I was coming up the lane, a pair of Cl.43s shot north in those one of those "Oh, look - Damn!" moments.

I agree it is safe to assume that there should be a 458/5 or two heading for Long Marston sooner rather than later. But do you have some more info ?.

There is a small straight set of track there, probably could be used for some sort of training, like rescue stuff etc
