Poor old 265, unless Exeter or Porterbrook has a spare bogie sat around it looks like that could be out for a few weeks at best.

Dft / Porterbrook / Landore TMD…. Any chance you can reactivate any of those ex-TfW sprinters please!

quote from Devon Live article:

""I got on at Ivybridge and the train was smoking heavily," he said. "At the time it looked like it was coming from the rear of the train, but I think it was coming from the underside of the train. In the end, when we got to Newton Abbot and the train had to stop, the smoke was coming from one of the front carriages."

so suggests the driver may have been aware beforehand and stopped somewhere sensible, rather than the absolute middle of nowhere before Newton Abbot.

Rather surprising ( assuming the traincrew were aware of the smoke and where it was coming from ) that the train did not terminate at Totnes, where there is good road access to the platform entrances from the adjacent station approach road ( on both platforms).

Post 24 implies that a gsm-r radio message to driver notified them of the fire.
That therefore ruled out Totnes.

Although it is not uncommon for a GWR 150 to have rather smoky or hot gas exhaust smells, which drifts in through the open windows. So there is a fair chance any smoke was initially ignored as part of normal 150 ambience.
