16:53 1W63 is a 3-car today. I guess because the Mk4 is going to Holyhead.

Does anyone actually know what happens with 1W11 on Monday?

I believe 67022 is replacing 67015 and set HD07 which caped at Shrewsbury earlier on 1V39, and the unit is going on 1W63 so sets remain balanced.

Delicious food onboard the 1430 from Manchester on Thursday. Steak is £3.45 supplement.

1W11 is whatever forms 2G63 from Gloucester on the Sunday, so it's bound to be a 3-car 197. I'm assuming a set will kick out for 1W59/1V50, as there should be 2 sets at Canton over the weekend, with the other set kicking out on 1W13/1V39/1W96 as booked.

Thank you for that. 1W11 is going to be incredibly cosy at the north end. As long as it runs though it is better than if they dont have anything on it. If it is a Standard Plus train, then I will aim for that.

I was just surprised they knew that there would not be 5 diagrams covered so far in advance.

Sad that 7 sets are not producing 5 working sets again.

Its not to do with Mk4s being unavailable. Cardiff to Newport is still shut so 1W11 starts from Platform 1 at Newport. As @ojb_455850 says (welcome to the forum by the way!) A 197 is diagrammed to stable overnight and form the Manchester and the Mk4 will go into service when Canton and Cardiff are accessible.

While I just joined this page on the forum, 022 will be leading from Chester.

Ah, that explains the issue. Thank you.

Does that mean that 197 starts with full tanks because it has not been on depot to get pumped out?

I will be starting my class at 09:00 very dehydrated if so.

Thank you.

In this case, it is good that there is a train. After having to go Sundays because of Ardwick, I don't really want to have to go back to the Sunday trains again.

Credit to TfW for getting the service running. Even a super busy train on 1W11 (yesterdays was very full in standard) is better than no train.

Weekend of 21/22 March, Newport to Cardiff is closed and a TfW poster advises no first class on Cardiff - Manchester.

With sets on Canton, and a need for units for the East, could you have Mk4s doing Swansea - Cardiff shuttles all day?

Mischievous, but that would create a bit more capacity, given the number of 197s that will be needed to cover Mk4s.

It all bubbles down to crew availability on the Mk4s, it's more limited West of Cardiff towards Swansea. You could probably sneak one out but it'd be a challenge logistically to manage.

How many Cardiff-based crews work on a normal weekend?

Either way, it gives the sets some time off and chance to be cleaned if nothing else.

The only Swansea terminators in the timetable are the GWR services or a few stopping Swanline services, everything else goes through to Pembroke/Milford/Carmarthen etc, so all are ruled out for Mk4s.

6 of the 7 sets have got work planned on them over the weekend so its not being wasted.

It is hypothetical, but you could split at Swansea if that was what was wanted. Alternatively, add stops to the West Wales and make the Swanline limited stop (as would be done when the Swanline gets cancelled). There are plenty of ways to add the capacity, but I guess without any major sporting event in Cardiff this weekend there is less need to be creative.

Probably much better that the sets are getting work over the weekend.

Slightly more curveball. Can the Mk4s work Manchester Airport to North Wales? Obviously, they do Piccadilly to Warrington ECS and Chester to Holyhead. I just do not know if they have done Warrington to Chester as an LHCS since the old Arriva days. (This would also assume that there are crew in Chester/Crewe who sign Mk4s and Manchester Airport. Since these crews would not be going to South Wales there would be flexibility, but that does not mean there would be anyone who could do a service between Chester and Manchester.)

Crewing isn't an issue - Holyhead sign the route and traction. In terms of paperwork though it's highly unlikely they're cleared for the Airport, and there are no stopping boards at any of the stations.
