Are EMR under pressure to hand over the Meridian's in the near future, thus leaving a potential stock shortage if the 810's do not come on line as quick as expected ?

Looks like there is an attempt to get 810014 back out today. It failed to appear on any of yesterdays diagrams.

810006 seems to have been repaired and looks due back out today. Its failure yesterday attributed to door and door system faults.

And its failed again on 1C39

Back in December I was excited at the prospect of getting an 810 to connect into a Eurostar departure but the Saturday diagrams hadn't started. I definitely dodged a bullet given the reliability.

New trains doing new train stuff, an age old tale. No amount of controlled closed testing really prepares a train for the reality of the real iron road and its inhabitants.

The more they run, eventually the less the faults will be as they're readily being fixed and applied to other units. I personally cant remember in the last decade any substantially new class of train that has had a pretty much faultless entry to service.

I think they were late, but I don't recall hearing about issues with 385s?

Other than the well-documented issues with windscreens and the need to hire in 365s for a period.

They were delivered with curved driver windscreens that under certain conditions caused drivers to see multiple signals when only one existed. The area around the windscreens had to be redisigned for flat windscreens to be installed, which eliminated the issue - but delayed introduction.
There were also software issues.

I'd forgotten about that tbh.

Was thinking more post entry to service really.

The software issues were a problem and a few niggles after introduction but yes the windows was a major issue they had to overcome and delayed their introduction which I'd still be counting. As another poster mentioned, they had to lease some 365s because it was causing service shortages.

Looks like there is only 2x 810’s running today in which is 006 & 014. 222019 filling in on DY701 today.

Modern trains seem more like fancy computers. Every so often they need a CTL ALT DEL reset. Maybe on a desk computer they work fine. At speed on uneven track, less so. But I remember issues with HSTs over the years

810015 should be service ready fairly shortly, then 016 is expected to arrive before the end of March followed shortly by 018/019/20 in quick succession

And Airbus 320Neos roll off the production line and in to service in a matter of days.

How many hours of flying do they do before they depart for the relevant operator?

When I was in Hamburg for a week, planes were up several times a day all week flying for several hours before leaving for delivery to the operators.

It isn't like they screw the last piece together and send it on its way.

I'd say there was a serious liability risk and huge damages, even reputational damage, if a plane "broke down" in flight. Probably even loss of life. Risk with a train is significantly less.

Yes, I know. Simply asking how many hours of flight testing planes do based on observations at Hamburg.

How many A320 have been built? And how much does one cost? The answers will help explain reliability!

Though as both the 787 and 737 Max debacles show, aviation can get it wrong too. Well, Boeing do.

AT what point do EMR say no more deliveries until the ones they already have delivered can be made to work reliably?

Noticed 810014 has the TfL Tube lines status on the PIS screens which isn't something I've seen on the others yet?

They probably appear far worse than they actually are if you spend hours looking for signs of trouble on RTT...

Well, if you know you have to release the 222s, by a certain date, what choice do they have? But given the 810s have to deliver so many miles of fault free running, why are the faults not picked up earlier? Maybe the tests are not "every day use" tests, where people get on and off

What makes the situation worse is the 222's lost to Lumo.
