Any news on whether the 200 is to be run in 2026 please? It looks like it ran from April 2025 but I can't find anything for this year. I need it to comtinue the Yorkshire Wolds Way north from Thixendale.
I can't see it and EY still haven't shown it either as an application to run the service or an update on their site

That said, they did last year's quite late and the shell of the timetable page exists so...

Thanks - I've submitted an enquiry via their website.

Rapid reply:

"We are hoping it may operate this year, but as it was previously funded by the local authority, and they haven't confirmed same with us as yet, am unable to confirm this at the moment."

Unfortunately, I wouldn't be surprised if the Wolds Explorer doesn't return.
I used it three times last year, every time I was the only person onboard. The driver said he was just carrying hot air around all day. At first, I thought it was just the weather, but even on Bank Holiday weekends I was the only person onboard.

When speaking to people who used it in 2024, they had similar experiences and were surprised that it returned for 2025. It seemed like the connection with the 535 in Fridaythorpe on Saturdays was an attempt to boost the popularity of the 200. In fact, on one Saturday, there were people waiting at Fridaythorpe for the 535, with the 200 continuing with just me onboard to Thixendale.

It was a good idea, boosting public transport for locals and tourists to the Wolds. The Wolds just aren't as popular as the Dales or Moors in terms of tourist numbers so the service was never really going to be as popular as Dalesbus or Moorsbus. It didn't help that the 200 wasn't serving a bigger town or city so people had to make a connection in Pocklington and the use of X46 tickets on the 200 at no additional charge was poorly advertised.

EY did make attempts at promoting the service, of course, like dedicated timetable leaflets and posters on buses but I think the service had a very limited base anyway. Millington, Huggate and Fridaythorpe only get a Tuesday bus service and Thixendale gets no service, suggesting limited use from locals. The stops along the route only really appeal to walkers, which is what I used the service for.

Like you @ricoblade, I used the 200 for walking the Wolds Way. I found it to be a great service, but an extremely poorly used one. I would love to see it return, but unfortunately there just doesn't seem to be the passengers to support the financial case for East Riding of Yorkshire Council and/or East Yorkshire Buses.

I guess it depends on whether ERYC deem it worth spending their BSIP cash on. There were a few people on when I'd used it last year and one driver told me there were a group of locals that regularly used the Saturday service from the villages for a trip into Pocklington. I didn't help that the service ran for a month longer than the timetable leaflet advertised, or that the Sunday service was worse than Saturday with a two journeys rather than three. By comparison, the also council funded Spurn service ran an even 2-hourly service both Saturday and Sunday.

The Spurn Explorer service also served Hull, providing some sort of passenger base. Although there has been no mention of it returning either.

Unfortunately, I can't see ERYC funding the Wolds Explorer as it was a bit of an oddball service. It surprised me that the Sunday service was worse, given that for services like the 200, the Sunday is normally the best timetable for it.

I wonder if that has something to do with the Spurn Point people selling off their vehicle that took people over the beach and on tours? Used to be popular with people with reduced mobility who would get the bus to Spurn, go on that and be able to avoid falling on the sand or the remains of the road

I used it last summer on a Saturday and there were about 10 people outbound from Pocklington in the morning then maybe 5 on the return from Thixendale later on, all walkers not locals.

Like you say there is no other way to get to Thixendale and it's a long hike in and back to the next public transport north on the A46.

Interesting, surprises me as I used it on a Bank Holiday weekend and even then was the only person. It seems like a very inconsistent service in terms of patronage then, seemingly quieter than it is busy but does have usage.

Unrelated to the Wolds Explorer but EY Enthusiasts reports that Streetdeck Electroliner 20930 has arrived at Anlaby Road.

Spotted at least two, if not the same one several times, doing dummy runs of the 35 yesterday during part of the afternoon... Single decker and seemed to be "waiting" time on dummy runs five minutes behind the actual service buses

I've only seen some of the new buses doing dummy runs on Spring Bank and Anlaby Road, (around the hospital area) but I wonder if anyone here has seen them do a dummy run of the 54/104 Castle Hill Hospital circular yet?

You made slight typos for the fleet numbers, 2099x is Olympus

I think ya meant 2089x

I suspect that 20775 will be out of action for a day or so - it suffered what can only best be described as a biological containment failure upstairs at the front... Never seen so much vomit from one person and was surprised that buses were not swapped at Pocklington and it stayed in service back to Hull on an X47

Surely it would need cleaning with specialist items given the hazard

That should have instantly been taken out of service, it's a contamination hazard full stop. You don't know what the vomit contained for a start, sickness bug or worse?

That’s very black & white. If it means dumping a load of passengers at the roadside for an hour or more, might be better to move them away from the affected area and carry on till a changeover can be conveniently executed.

Slight over reaction. Any company I’ve worked for you’ll simply be instructed to tape off the effected area with ticket roll, open all possible windows for ventilation and then continue until realistically possible where the bus can either be swapped or cleaned on the spot.

A simple mop and bucket and a few wet wipes usually suffices also… no bus company I know will be sending guys in hazard suits for sick! Yes, it has a tendency to go everywhere, but it’s just one of those things.

Have you ever tried to mop up liquid vomit with ‘a few wet wipes’ and a mop? On a bus? It isn’t as easy as you make out. Even trying to clean up on a relatively flat floor with a few chairs and tables, granules and pads is a fair job.

Ironically it happened to me about 2 weeks ago (first time In years of being a driver), passenger informed me as he was getting off that someone had vomited all on the floor at the back of the lower deck. I sent a message on the ticket machine to depot and carried on advising passengers to stay away from the area and within 5 minutes of message being sent I got a reply saying stop where I am, transfer passengers onto other services and bring bus back for deep clean.

To be fair it was simply mopped up by a cleaner using hot bleachy water and I was sent back out on it.

It would take a cleaner less than 10 minutes to clean with a bucket of hot water and some bleach!
I’ve seen buses towed in with major air leaks, get dumped on a pit and within an hour or so be back out on the road so there hardly going to keep a bus off for a couple of days for a pool of vomit.

Exactly this, happens a fair bit to be honest and if its all over seats, then they get swapped out for spare squabs (which again, doesn't take all that long) and the offending items are reupholstered once they've dried out.

I'm horrified at these replies about mop and buckets, buses not swapped straight away etc, it's no wonder so many hazardous germs spread about. In my profession, sick is treated as a dangerous thing with FULL PPE and equipment used to clean it up. Specialist Granuels capable of nulling all viruses and germs in the vomit are used, not bleach because that only kills 99%. Put it this way, if you knew the person had one of the Hepititus infections, would you just use a mop and bucket?

As someone who once threw up on a bus in 2016 after a long ride, sometimes it can simply be motion sickness or non viral or non transmissible conditions, however its still worth disinfecting because you never know if its viral or not I guess

Two things...

Bleach does kill 99.9% of germs - it is basically because they can't say 100% on advertising as there is the potential for rare, resistant microbes.

Secondly, in all health and safety assessments, there is always a requirement to look at what is "reasonably practicable" in the circumstances. Expecting staff to don hazmat suits to clean up some vomit is rather beyond what is reasonably practicable... or else we'd be seeing every single business in the country to do the same just in case someone is sick on their premises.
