Can anyone explain this?

It gets to Loughborough, and then appears to go back the way it came in a very short space of time (and it wasn't top and tailed) - how did that happen?

Because you can only get into Trent Sidings from the south and reversing at Loughborough is probably the most suitable location for the driver to swap ends without causing delays to other services.

2 minutes to run round? That's a very slick operation - it's a freight train, not a DMU.

"Pathed as diesel locomotive" is a bit misleading, the train service code is for VOLKER RAIL OWNED YELLOW PLANT and TOPS consist shows DR 75404

The origin location is the on-track-plant depot at Scunthorpe Frodingham rather than the yard or steelworks

This webpage is useful for identifying typical track machine headcodes: https://www.ontrackplant.com/headcodes

the description 600 ton that confused me.
Timing Load =/= What is actually running

The rolling stock used has to be able to achieve the SRTs (or TRTs) of the relevant Timing Load, though operating stock which is too much faster than the Timing Load is also an issue.

Timing Loads are in large part only of relevance for the creation of the timetable.
