RTT+ Extended Horizon is now available for an extra £15 per year pro-rata on top of existing subs. Headline is it goes back to late December 2011. Real-time data starts in late 2013 but there are some missing bits up to November 2014 on schedules, and June 2016 for real-time data. I've bought the extended history on top of the other subscriptions for one month (I'll get a longer one if it works well for me), but I can't go back beyond this year so far in the search history, despite being logged in with the sub confirmed. How do you make the extended history work?

On the homepage, you need to chose 'want more control' and then use detailed mode.

Worth noting there is a RTT Mapper extension which can be added in to map the route the service is taking - whilst not directly run by RTT (therefore not perfect) it’s a brilliant addition.

The extension is great and I use it daily - but Bradford Interchange seems to send the map a little bit crazy (I've not checked other locations where trains reverse)

Thanks Chiltern006. I've added the extension, but I don't see how to show the map for a service in RTT. I daresay it's something obvious, but if you could pooint me in the right direction that'd be really helpful - many thanks.

Works fine for me with an adblocker. Must be something on @chrisjo's end causing the map not to show - maybe @AlexNL might know?

No, but I'm not convinced this is the same extension. This is on Firefox, and looks like it could be an unauthorised attempt at a clone of the Chrome extension by someone in Vietnam! @AlexNL aware?

Well the real one is a Chrome extension, not a Firefox extension, so that explains it.

I happened to have seen the Firefox extension last week, that is indeed not uploaded by me. I've only tested it in Chrome and Edge. I wasn't even aware that Firefox extensions work with the same tech these days.

Maybe if you install a custom browser which supports that (I don't know if those exist on iPhone?) but it will not work with the stock browser.

While the official Google Chrome app for iPhone does not support extensions, Orion Browser by Kagi is currently the primary third-party browser that allows you to install and use Chrome and Firefox extensions directly on iOS (Google AI)

On Realtime Trains, why are the two multi-brand Train Operating Companies inconsistent with each other?

Govia Thameslink Railway is split into Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern and Gatwick Express,

but West Midlands Trains remains as just West Midlands Trains (rather than being split into West Midlands Railway and London Northwestern Railway).

What is the reason for this inconsistency?

Because GTR reports under the codes TL, GN, SN and GX, whereas WMT only reports under the code LM. Under London Midland, it was all one brand, so there's only one operator code, even though WMT uses two brands. For GTR, however the four brands have changed franchises over the years and have therefore all ended up with their own codes.

Basically yes, those are the operator codes which are in play now. Sometimes the branding doesn't exactly follow the operator code, and I think that could be sorted using the eight digit train service codes, which basically identify groups of train services within the timetable. Not that I'm nit picking, I just see an opportunity for fine tuning the customer experience here! Of course, some research is needed to derive meaningful branding information from train service codes.

There have been talks on how to disentangle the whole mess around branding/train operators.

It isn't quite as easy as using train service codes for WMT as there are a few edge cases - or at least that's what I've been told. Changing the operator codes of the services themselves to distinguish upstream (but again would necessitate train service code changes to some services) would create issues around fares and restrictions.

WMT was a straight follow on from London Midland so no real change to create or change the operator codes, unlike when LM itself was formed itself from merging Silverlink and Central.

Having said that, jury is out on whether anything happens what with the looming change to GBR. The ATOC code was introduced in June '96 to the CIF spec, so I could see a situation where all of the DfTO TOCs end up under a GB/BR code or something like that.

Stonehouse and Stroud are in the same signal block, RTT would receive no further info about the train's departure and arrival, so just has to assume.

I noticed it's all services via Tulse Hill as well I wondered the same thing

This is an upstream industry issue - same as the Northern / ZZ / freight train / obfuscated service. It's only not shown in NRE because GTR are removing all of the trains in Darwin and adding new ones.

and the station announcements are too.

On board announcements are still Southern.

Yesterday our local radio and local newspaper said all trains were stopped on GEML radio report at 9am news
Realtime trains show all services more or less on time

I use it but it's not 100% - for example on the day Glasgow Central was closed due to the fire is showed Avanti West Coast services operating normally.
Tiger Worldline showed all services cancelled, right away
