When my daily commute involved taking the Docklands Light Railway, I'd often look out of the train window, searching hard for the DLR's fabled West India Key. I never saw it.

Kinetic-to-Potential, Potential-to-Kinetic; it's a genius energy-efficient idea @Topological . I've often wondered why Magic Roundabout's Zebidee didn't take a similar career-path, after his TV contract ended. Last I had heard, he.was one of 2000 similar inside a king-sized mattress.
Keys everywhere in Docklands. They had probably just covered them in water when you were there.

If people pay the APR interest, it's a success. :D
Was that why it was cancelled? Lack of interest…

What if the Channel Tunnel was never built?

What if Wonder Woman Pasties were actually commercially successful and took out a Pendolino advertising livery?

Take a bow :D

That Channel image takes me back to Denmark's (ceased) railway ferry which operated between Nyborg (Funen) and Halsskov (Zealand). I used it in 1986.
I have a 35mm photo looking down to the rail-inlaid deck, as a DSB Litra "Silver Arrow" express diesel train slowly rolled onto the ferry. Freight vans filled the ferry's other tracks.

I could see that being a Hornby trainset!

It was inspired partly by the Italy-Sicily train ferry, which still does have some of the open deck ferries although these days they are usually used for cars but they still have rails and I have seen them carry trains in the past.

But who would buy such a thing:

There is a real image on the box.

Coming of age - what if a well-known but now ceased TOC's name was - well...

It's a Wonder. I need that model. 8-)
Brilliant work on that image too. :D
I am probably on that to Cardiff with TfW tomorrow.

I assume Mr Bean in this advert is looking at all the additional costs of using HSTs instead of a Class 150.

Meanwhile, behind the camera is an image of Richard Branson's new Armadillo Juice powered car range. Towards the back there is Peter Jones and a young Deborah Meaden coming to invest a brown bag of cash in the project.

Duncan Bannatyne is already out.

Simples - what if World Book Day unearthed a previously-unseen title?

That is first class...

Here we wonder "what if passengers needed books to tell them how to get onto trains?"
Well done on proving Gemini Pro knows a class 185 in TPE garb. I really do like your Avanti pasty-Pendo fleet.

Here we see the train out in the wild once again. Here the unit is being used to test battery technology.

Interestingly, I expect that Gemini will now put that train into my photos without asking. I don't really want to change it now. It would be even better if someone somewhere was asking their Gemini for a Pendolino and got that livery. There must be a reason why I specify Avanti and get Virgin. Well now someone somewhere can get pasties.

(I tried to add wires for the Pendolino, but it added a cab pantograph so I prefer the What If? with batteries)

Perfect pub literature. 8-)

I hope the drivers of the errant car and recovery-van will beat hasty retreat, if a train barrels down those nearer tracks.
Trick of the perspective. The fast lines actually go underneath the road there. There is a cantilever arrangement keeping the carriageway above the nearest track and then an entry into a tunnel. That is why the Pendolino's track goes upwards. The Pendolino has been routed onto the slows as the Stranraer-Todmorden Intercity Growler has been given the fast line.

What if, the travelling public knew the joys of shift work! It’s half past two and with a long day ahead Dave has three Shredded Wheat for breakfast!

National unplugging day seems like a realistic idea. Here is an imagined diverted CrossCountry Voyager in the Pennines. The Armadillos are acting safely in this scenario to celebrate the day.

Trained minds - what if British Science Week (6- to 15-March) included a lesson on hydraulics?

A torch? Surely a quick back-rub will do. ;)

That is basically what all of my science classes were like. We always had at least one girl pinned in an impossible gap between a table and a solid desk.

What are the chances of being there to witness the two pasty trains passing? The ideal subject for a field trip lesson on probability.

"Pass the pasty" never looked so good!
To mark the end of National Pie Week the pasty has been given an evening off. If you are well-behaved at the dentist you can have a nice slice of steak pie. The pie might be for the receptionist for Employee Appreciation Day, but actually what we cannot see here is that the staff went to The Chariot long ago.

Suffice to say the Pendolino is not giving in to pies as easily.

Cereal killer - what if harvest had a twist on today's (7-March) National Cereal Day?

Marvellous @Topological
I wonder if a pie-based day will appear again quite soon. A natural meat pie with no artificial additives. No E-numbers.
Yes - natural pie without E. Or is that infinitely irrational?
