Those 450s are powerful beasts. Some carriages need 3 keys. The others seem to just need 2.

The question is which came first, the Westminster Condem coalition between the blue coloured Conservatives and the Lib Dems, or the Londem trains coalition between the Long Island Railroad and the Clockwork Tandem Bicycle Company.

After writing my composition-description for this month's Realistic AI Railway Images theme (resulting image linked), Gemini first gave me a Desiro 450 in ficticious - but a very awesome-looking - livery. SWR's blue / white real scheme looks bland by comparison!
Clockwork bi-modes!

Ah you spotted my word-play - driven by my 24 year-old son using the word Mandem*, when he plays PS5 online.

* Mandem is a slang term and is commonly used in London to describe one's close-knit circle or clique. It can denote a sense of camaraderie, loyalty, or, sometimes, a group of young men.

To be fair, Mandem is what came into my head. Though not being either cool, or young, I did not want to commit it to the internet and instead went to the safe space of 2010.

Lon is from Long Island though? Surely I got that right on a London and the South West railway service?

What if, 1 in 37 wasn`t steep enough for you? Having enjoyed the ride its off to the candy floss stand, careful it dosn`t stick in the beard you have grown (and will shave off by the next picture!)

Depends how fast those TBMs are going, could still be years of travel at 15 metres per day (a 'fast' average for HS2 TBMs)
Good point.

It is a long time since there were Virgin Pendolinos, so there must be a lot of progress. However, there are a lot of 15m steps to get under the Atlantic.

There is a possibility that the tunnel boring machines are fuelled with Armadillo Juice. Earlier in the thread @Sun Chariot established that Stephenson favoured Armadillo Juice for the Rocket.

Wasn't it also established that Armadillo juice is just electricity?
I think most TBMs are powered by electricity, although it's probably useful to be able to generate it on sight.

Knock a couple of frisky 'dillos' shells together, creating the static spark in a confined sub-ocean tunnel full of unstable gases...
Gets the hole bigger, mind. :D

According to this image, the tunnel must be almost ready.
The Geological Strata Analysis seems a bit optimistic. It's not entirely clear how they're going to deal with the Mid-Atlantic Ridge divergent tectonic plate boundary. Any ideas?

Armadillos have a can do attitude and do not let a bit of geology get in the way.

I am not sure that the Armadillos are building the Eastern arm of HS2 for us though.

Floating tunnel with walls made of glass so you can see out, like how most(?) people imagined the channel tunnel as children.
Not sure if there's even enough light down there to see though.

I fear you may be overstating most children's imaginations.

This child, for one, would have imagined the channel tunnel as being a tunnel. Without windows. And in the ground. Just like the tunnels on the London Underground (with which I had at least some familiarity).

Not that (a) me as a sample of one is necessarily any better than you as a sample of one, or(b) I spent a great deal of time imagining the channel tunnel.

There is another image doing the rounds:

Gemini_Generated_Image_ooshajooshajoosh.png

It is very possible that they are building both. Armadillos are productive.

Now both sets of children will have their imagination become reality.

(I also thought the Channel Tunnel would be a tunnel. I could not get my head around the depth issues and gradients within the tunnel. However I did expect a tunnel)

What if, instead of banning alcohol at certain times of day, Scotrail actually made drinking on their trains compulsory?

What if, Richard Branson had bought Sealink?

Hmm....that looks more like an Isle of Wight ferry than something capable of a long cross-channel voyage. However, I'm sure Branson would have been able to market it with at least three different classes of travel, including a VIP lounge. Not sure whether professional sailors would have been too keen on wearing bright red uniforms though! ;)

What if, the railway still employed shunting horses?
